Gegard Mousasi May be out Until 2014 Right after 2nd Knee Surgery.

Promising UFC light heavyweight Gegard Mousasi recently said a second surgery on his troublesome knee can keep him out until beginning 2014—significantly later than formerly estimated.

In a May well 10 interview with MMAJunkie. com The airwaves (h/t Bloody Elbow), Mousasi confirmed that this approach surgery was indeed on the same knee that was surgically reconstructed in 2012. Mousasi, 27, said inside the interview that the re-injury didn't result from a defective operation.

"[The re-injury] wasn't within the surgery, " Mousasi stated. "It was just, maybe training too early or something like that that caused the issues... The surgeon didn't can anything wrong. "

Unbeknownst to fans right at that moment, Mousasi (34-3-2) fought with the injury mainly event of UFC on Fuel TV 9, of which doubled as Mousasi's UFC debut. Mousasi looked tentative during the entire bout, though he quite simply won by unanimous conclusion over Ilir Latifi, himself a UFC newcomer and then a late injury replacement to get Alexander Gustafsson.

Mousasi's management firm estimated in April of the fact that young light heavyweight would return in few months. However, the timeline now is very much later—perhaps much later. Within the May 10 interview, Mousasi said he'd return some time relating to November and January.

Even though his young age, Mousasi has competed in professional MMA in a full decade. He provides fought in nearly 20 completely different promotions, most recently inside now-defunct Strikeforce, before typing in the UFC. Mousasi has long tantalized hardcore fans with a well-rounded game, but has sometimes seemed to suffer from a reduction in focus or plain misfortune in high-pressure circumstances.

Mousasi did actually have turned the corner on the eve of his UFC debut, noting which he had a new dedication to training and expected them to be big things in your world's biggest MMA advancement. He has also teased a move into middleweight, which might certainly be a better fit for Mousasi provided his size and frame. However, Mousasi's future plans are all on hold in the wake from this second ACL surgery.
