Borussia Dortmund out to shatter Bayern Munich's ideal time - Football.co.uk

Holders Borussia Dortmund are planning to destroy Bayern Munich's 'great time' when Germany's top two teams collide in Wednesday's crisis German Cup quarter-final in a of last season's final. 'For them, it's a perfect period, for us it's like a Champions League absent game,' said Dortmund instructor Jurgen Klopp with Bayern a powerful 17 things apparent at the top of the Bundesliga, with Borussia second in the group. "We realize that we are one of the several clubs on the planet who can beat Bayern. "We have aspirations in this opposition, but a good performance is needed by us. "You can't defeat Bayern by playing at only 98 percent." The fit at Munich's Allianz Arena is the plum tie of the cup quarter-finals with relatively unstoppable Bayern facing last season's domestic dual winners Dortmund. "These are the two best teams in Germany. I reckon the complete country is getting excited about it - and so are we," said Bayern captain Philipp Lahm. Having hammered Bayern 5-2 in last May's German Cup final, when Poland striker Robert Lewandowski netted a, Dortmund have lots of connection with beating their Bavarian competitors recently. Bayern have not overwhelmed Dortmund in a league or cup match since February 2010, although they did enjoy a 2-1 Supercup final win in August over Borussia in a warm-up for the Bundesliga's top sides. "Three years back, we still had to browse through the history books to see when we last gained against Bayern," quipped Klopp with both Bayern and Dortmund in the last 16 of the Champions League. "Now we have seen that the respect from Bayern has improved towards us." Bayern are demonstrably investing heavily in Wednesday's game as coach Jupp Heynckes rested many stars for last Saturday's 6-1 hammering of Werder Bremen at the Allianz Arena. Lahm, Dutch wing Arjen Robben and Brazil centre-back Dante were also all provided Monday off by Heynckes to rest up for the fit. "We have big dreams in the glass and are extremely motivated," mentioned Heynckes, with Bayern last having gained a title in-may 2010 and are on course for an old treble. "We are playing at home, we are self confident and we are playing basketball at an exceptionally high level. So we're optimistic." Dortmund will have centre-back Mats Hummels (bruised thigh), midfielder Jakub Blaszczykowski (hip stress) and striker Robert Lewandowski (suspension) back after missing Sunday's 1-1 bring at Moenchengladbach. Bayern will undoubtedly be without France side Franck Ribery, who's suspended after a card in December's prior round, while Spain midfielder Javi Martinez is anticipated to be healthy despite suffering a light groin damage against Bremen. With all due respect to one other teams in the quarter-finals, Wednesday night's champion will become chances on favourite to gain the German Cup final at Berlin's Olympic Stadium on June 1. On Tuesday, Mainz 05 host Freiburg, in the round's only other all-Bundesliga fit, and third-division Kickers Offenbach host top-tier part VfL Wolfsburg, while VfB Stuttgart are home to second-division VfL Bochum on Wednesday. Giant-killers Offenbach are aiming to state their next Bundesliga scalp having already beaten Greuther Fuerth and Fortuna Duesseldorf on the way to the past eight.

In the only precedent of Real Madrid playing Barcelona over two legs with a 1-1 first-leg score in all Copa del Rey, Spanish Super Cup and European Cup tournaments, the Whites came away triumphant. It happened in the semifinals of the 92/93 Copa del Rey after also playing the first leg at home. The Whites won 1-2 at the Camp Nou and ended up taking home the title ten days later at the Luis Casanova stadium.

Tonight Real Madrid faces the second-leg match of the Copa del Rey semifinals against Barcelona. There's only one official precedent of the two teams playing after a one-all draw in the first leg and it's favourable to the Whites. It took place in the semifinals of the 92/93 Copa del Rey and, curiously enough, the first match was also played in the Santiago Bernabeu. Bakero put the Catalonians ahead and Zamorano brought the score to a tie before going into halftime.

It was a different story in the second leg with the team led in those days by Benito Floro coming away with a clear win. Michel scored a goal off a penalty, putting the Whites ahead on the scoreboard at halftime. Then, in the final minutes, Zamorano dealt the definitive blow and Laudrup closed the gap. Ten days later, the Whites won the title against Zaragoza (2-0) at the Luis Casanova stadium.

Bayern Munich, Manchester United & the clubs who could still win a ...

Goal.com takes a look at some of the teams who are on course to make history this season on all three fronts, as 2012-13 reaches its most critical stage

As the football season enters the home straight, the wheat and the chaff are well and truly separated. Some teams will prosper and make history, while others will fall by the wayside, made to rue their missed chances. And, with the end of 2012-13 in sight, several teams around Europe stand on the brink of success.

With Celtic and Barcelona having fallen at recent hurdles, Bayern Munich, one of the few teams still in contention on all three fronts, take on arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday. Goal.com takes a look at some of the teams who could still complete an historic treble this campaign.

Bayern Munich's pursuit of the treble has been a long one, but they have as good a chance as ever this term. After shaking off their disappointment in three competitions last season, they have been nothing short of unstoppable this time out, taking the Bundesliga by storm.

Going into Wednesday's clash with BVB, they hold a 17-point lead at the top of the league, and will be strong favourites for the Pokal if they can overcome the reigning German champions, with the likes of Mainz and Stuttgart their strongest competitors for the tournament.

Things have been progressing well in Europe, too. After claiming a 3-1 last-16 first-leg win over Arsenal at the Emirates, they can be almost assured of a place in the quarter-finals, and having overcome Real Madrid over two legs last season, will be confident of beating anyone in Europe.

Another club to have put a disappointing 2011-12 behind them, Manchester United, complete with the marquee signing of Robin van Persie from Arsenal, have enjoyed a fine campaign to date.

With the Dutchman in their ranks, the Red Devils have all but knocked Manchester City off their Premier League perch, and are clear favourites to claim the FA Cup for the first time since 2002, and on the continent, they have been no less impressive.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side seem to have learned their lesson from their early Champions League exit last season, qualifying from their group with two games to spare, and they will fancy their chances of reaching the last eight of the competition, having claimed a 1-1 draw (complete with an away goal) at the Bernabeu.

Question marks remain over the consistency of the defence, which has shipped needless goals throughout the campaign, but their sheer knack of winning could see them through, as it has countless times before.

Les Parisiens' pursuit of glory has seen them spend a fortune on the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Javier Pastore, Lucas Moura and Thiago Silva, and finally their plan for success looks to be coming to fruition.

Rumours persist over the future of coach Carlo Ancelotti, but a Ligue 1 triumph is looking increasingly likely, while they will become the outright Coupe de France favourites should they repeat Sunday's league win over Olympique de Marseille on Wednesday.

They can also be very confident of overcoming Valencia in the last 16 of the Champions League, having won 2-1 at the Mestalla in the first leg, despite Ibrahimovic's red card.

PSG remain a club who have enjoyed only modest success in their 43-year history, but the experience of players like the Swede and Thiago Silva could give them the edge in crunch situations from here on in.

Shakhtar Donetsk's dominance of Ukrainian football shows no signs of coming to an end in 2012-13. With a 13-point lead just after the halfway stage, the Miners look almost certain to retain their Premier League title.

Unsurprisingly, they are the hot favourites to claim the Ukrainian Cup too, having made sound progress to the quarter-finals, where they face Karpaty Lviv, having claimed 4-1 victories in both of their cup games so far, including one over Dynamo Kiev.

Their Champions League progress has been all the more marked, though. Having been eliminated at the group stage last season, they have been one of the competition's finest teams so far, stunning Chelsea en route to the last 16.

Should they recover from their 2-2 draw with BVB in the home leg of tie, the Blues may well not end the season as the only big gun to fall victim to Mircea Lucescu's side.

Slip ideas for St James' Park, Newcastle - The Northern Echo

5:41pm Monday 25th Feb 2013 in Information By Gavin Engelbrecht Artist's impact of slides at St James' Park, Newcastle TOON fans may wish their accomplishments are not on the slip - unlike they could be if strange 'transfer' recommendations get the go ahead. For two "travel accelerators" could be mounted outside St James' Park, Newcastle, to simply help push supporters away from the ground that bit quicker. The slides, the firstly their kind in the UK, will allow a number of the 53,000 matchgoers to avoid having to tackle a lengthy flight of steps and as an alternative 'chute' right down to the stadiumas car parking or Metro stop below. Manchester City and Real Madrid Jobs Do Not Interest Michael Laudrup - caughtoffside

Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup has ruled himself out of the running for potential jobs at Manchester City and Real Madrid after admitting he wants to continue his success story at the Liberty Stadium.

Laudrup led Swansea City to the first cup victory in the club's history when lifting the Capital One Cup on Sunday when his side cruised to a 5-0 win over League Two Bradford City at Wembley.

And the Dane, who replaced Brendan Rodgers at the helm at Swansea City in the summer, has committed his future to the Liberty Stadium for at least another season after which he will need to negotiate new terms on his initial two-year deal.

He has been linked with replacing Roberto Mancini at Manchester City in the summer, and is also under considering should Jose Mourinho's spell in charge of Real Madrid come to an end at the end of the season.

A poll in Spanish newspaper AS resulted in 78 per cent of Real Madrid voting for Laudrup to be the man named as the successor to Mourinho, but the former Mallorca coach is focused on the job in hand in the Premier League.

"I am proud of that because there were 40,000 voters and it's 78 per cent in front of two huge names like Rafael Benitez and Carlo Ancelotti, who have won league titles in Italy and Spain and the Champions League," Laudrup told Sky Sports. "So I'm very grateful. But I can't really say anything more.

"There will always be rumours but this time it's positive rumours about one club or another club. I can only sustain what I've said before – my intention is to stay here, I have one more year (on my) contract. And that's it.

"I've been part of this – football – since the beginning of the 1980s so I know it's like that. I'll cope with it and I'll probably have a lot of questions about this probably every Thursday when I have a press conference until the end of the season. But that's a part of it.

"I've said I'd like to stay here but again, even if you have a 10-year deal, there will always be rumours. My intention is to stay here next year, that's the only thing I can say really."

Swansea have opened negotiations with Laudrup over new terms, but have also started scouring Europe for potential replacements for him.

FC Barcelona: The Easy Purpose They're Much Better Than Real Madrid - Bleacher Report

With yet another pair of Clasicos on the horizon, we turn once again to the question of what separates the two Spanish leaders of club soccer, Barcelona and Madrid. One particular difference has given Barcelona their regular side in head-to-head encounters with Madrid: superior midfielders, though the pendulum of general quality and effects has swung straight back and forth notably in the past several months. Of course, as a warning, any make an effort to compare these two enormously different squads might be foolhardy, given their different varieties of play. Barcelona attack with systematic precision and deliberate passing. They rarely cross the ball, group midfield full of players and rarely play with an accepted striker. Madrid, by comparison, strike more directly, depending specially on the speed of their wingers and the real presence of the central striker. Nevertheless, any group in the present day game has to exert some control within the heart of the frequency to have success. To a big extent Madrid's concession of the possession research to Barcelona is just a matter maybe not of choice but a signal. Barcelona will continue to overcome Madrid of this type of the frequency in Tuesday and Saturday's situations, simply because they have the superior quality to take action. Madrid's front three certainly are a desirable band of opponents, and it'd be difficult to argue that Barcelona's front three keep these things beat for targeting sparkle and goalscoring expertise, all told. But all tactics and style aside, Barca's midfielders core of Xavi, Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas are just a technically excellent ton to Madrid's Mesut Ozil, Xabi Alonso and Sami Khedira. Denis Doyle/Getty Images Iniesta, although playing in a more advanced level part this season, is still a cog in the Barcelona midfield device and a critical element inside their possession play. And Barcelona get whilst the solitary holding midfielder an increasingly identified and incredible unpleasant return out of Busquets, who works. He doesn't score many goals or make many aids, but Busquets is a technically skilled person who hasa'more and morea'become a safe spot for ball possession. Gone could be the Busquets of two or 36 months ago who would casually get caught in possession or give the ball away in his defensive third. Fabregas has already established his ups and downs in the Blaugrana shirt, but at his best, he brings a slightly more direct and inaccurate bit to the Barca fighting challenge. It's not that Madrid's midfield three aren't a good group; at their utmost, they are being among the most lethal combination in all of world soccer. The two Germans attack with a certain speed and power that's often missing from people like Xavi or Fabregas. But in the finish, they cannot quite have the technical quality to complement Barca's amazing four, and thus will always be fighting for control in Clasico suits.

Americans Abroad Wrap: Brek Shea Makes Introduction for Stoke Town - Bleacher Survey

There was a complete slate of motion for Americans playing abroad this week-end, however the big news was Brek Shea making his formal introduction for Stoke City. Elsewhere, Terrence Boyd got in among the goalscorers, and Timmy Chandler, Michael Bradley and Jermaine Jones racked up assists. Alejandro Bedoya also scored in a friendly. Check always everything out in this weekas version of the Americans Abroad Wrap. Stoke City versus. Fulham Jan Kruger/Getty Photographs It was a tumultuous affair at Craven Cottage on Saturday regardless of the meager 1-0 scoreline. Fulham got the greater of Stoke 1-0. The overall game had at the very least three incidents that could have had a new player sent down including Dimitar Berbatovas elbow of Steven NaZonzi, NaZonzias half-punch/half-slap of Bryan Ruiz and eventually, Robert Huthas forearm shiver to the face area of Philippe Senderos. The big news for American fans was the introduction of the match was entered by Brek Shea who in the 24th minute for a wounded Matthew Etherington. It was a combined performance from Shea who did well in gaining a for Stoke, fizzed a go only wide of the Fulham net at the time mark and devote a really dangerous corner end support in stoppage time (The penalty Shea received was overlooked by Jonathan Walters). The match was also entered by shea to a quick series of aUSA! USA!a chants. On the negative side, Sheaas not enough a match since last September showed as he attempted to shake off the rust. Shea dropped control for Stoke several times, was frequently drawn also thin, killing Stokeas size and struggled to discover a flow with Stoke left-back Marc Wilson. Since Shea didn't close down the strike rapidly enough defensively, Fulham got much too many crosses off from Stokeas left part, many of these. Geoff Cameron also started for Stoke, once again in the taken forward position that Stoke director Tony Pulis attempted him in against Arsenal three weeks ago. Cameron was, not surprisingly, ineffective in the role and was switched to a wide midfield role midway through the very first half. With Stoke down an objective, Cameron was taken and only Cameron Jerome in the 51st moment. Ze Italians Jermaine Jones and Schalke beat Fortuna Dusseldorf, 2-1. Jones assisted on the opening goal for Schalke, planning a set-piece support back over the face of goal for the easy tap-in. His obligatory yellow card was also picked up by jones in the match. Smith also scored (video) in mid-week Champions League action against Galatasaray. Timmy Chandler acquired the game-tying support (video) in Nurnbergas 1-1 draw with Stuttgart, although Chandler did a bit more than produce a simple pass on the play. In yet another troubling indication for Michael Parkhurstas global profession, Parkhurst didnat actually make the table for Augsburg within their 2-1 defeat to Hoffenheim. For Hoffenheim, Fabian Johnson started and went the exact distance while Danny Williams was an unused change. Steve Cherundolo continues to be dealing with knee surgery and missed Hannoveras 5-1 conquer Hamburger. In Bundesliga 2, Joe Gyau played the final nine minutes of St. Paulias 3-0 win over Frankfurt, Andrew Wooten played 71 minutes in Sandhausenas 3-1 damage to Paderborn, and Bobby Wood played 53 minutes in 1860 Munchenas 2-1 win over Braunschweig. John Anthony Brooks and Hertha Berlin play on Wednesday. Elsewhere in Europe Jordan Bradley helped on the game-winning objective in Romaas 3-2 and got in to the starting lineup for Roma win over Atalanta. The opening goal was scored by terrence Boyd for Rapid Wien within their 3-3 pull with Salzburg. Maurice Edu was sent down in the 80th minute of Bursasporas 2-1 damage to Gazientepspora after acquiring two yellow cardsa'the to begin which cost Bursaspor a punishment. Both yellow cards can be seen beginning at the 2:43 mark of this show. Sacha Kljestan enjoyed 79 minutes in Anderlechtas 2-2 attract with Club Bruges. The Scandinavian contingent continues to be on cold temperatures hiatus, but Alejandro Bedoya did report against FC Copenhagen in an amiable. The goal is seen at the 2:14 mark of this cut. Everton vs. Norwich Town Jamie McDonald/Getty Photos Everton took the lead against Norwich City late in the first half and light emitting diode the fit from there completely until the 84th second before Norwich stormed back to win 2-1. It was Tim Howardas 300th appearance for Everton, and excepting several good grabs in traffic, he had a fairly easy game until the last six minutes of the fit. In the moment, former Sporting KC forward Kei Kamara, who'd come on as a second-half substitute, thundered house a on a Norwich place end past Howard. Perhaps more remarkable on Kamaraas purpose was that he was being man-marked on the play by 6a4a Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini. Then, deep into stoppage time, Norwich forward Grant Holt discovered a loose ball facing the Everton web which he tapped home for the overall game winner. Aston Villa compared to. Strategy Ian Walton/Getty Photographs Brad Guzan took his usual place in the internet for Aston Villa on Saturday while they took on Arsenal. Guzan, as normal, acquitted himself well in the match, making a quantity of reliable stops. However, as common, Villa was not able to come away with any points from the match, losing 2-1 and falling to the EPL relegation zone. Guzan began the game off powerful with a good save in the last minute before being beaten by Santi Cazorla in the sixth minute. On the purpose, Cazorlaas shot went between the legs of a Villa defender, and Guzan did well to get a hand on the ball despite being struggling to keep it out from the net. Late in the first half, Guzan did well to stop a chance by Olivier Giroud, and Guzan had a good grab on a near-post effort by Arsenal near the hour mark. Villaas defense must certanly be given credit as well, while they repeatedly used their bodies facing shots and guarded Guzan multiple times with gritty last-ditch defending. FC Barcelona's Next Opposition: Sevilla FC (La Liga Scouting Report) - Barca Blaugranes (blog)

Barcelona continue a difficult stretch, having little time to dwell on the shocking loss to AC Milan in the Champions League. Sevilla are a strong opponent, having troubled Barca and beaten Real Madrid in Andalusia, but they do not possess a great away record.

FC Barcelona saved their worst performance of the season for the worst possible time, losing 2-0 to AC Milan. But the schedule waits for no one, and there are key matches to be played in the league and in the cup against Sevilla and Real Madrid.

Sevilla themselves are wary of a midweek cup match in four days as they try to revert a 2-1 loss against Atletico de Madird. The Sevillistas will return to their home fortress, the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, and try to find the right result to progress into the cup final to meet either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Los Rojiblancos are an important team in Spanish football history, having won the league once and the Copa del Rey five times. In 2009-10, Sevilla became the first team to eliminate a Pep Guardiola team from any competition. After defeating Barca on away goals, Los Rojiblancos went on to claim the cup themselves.

In 2005-06 and 2006-07, Sevilla made history winning the UEFA Cup twice in a row. They also claimed the 2006 Super Cup, soundly defeating Barcelona 3-0.

With both teams looking to arguably more important contests in the cup, who will have the mental fortitude, not to mention the squad depth, to take the three points?

Sevilla are in pretty good form, despite the key loss in the cup. In fact, they have won all of their last six games except two - and those two were away to Atletico Madrid and away to Real Madrid. It's quite difficult for any team to get those results.

In all other games, they have outscored opponents 12-2. Impressive, but there is one caveat. All those matches were at home, and there is no team in La Liga whose quality suffers away from their turf as much as they do. Sevilla have won one match away, compared to the eight victories at home in the league.

Barcelona remain undefeated at home across all competitions, while Sevilla have not won away in nine league away matches. Sevilla have also conceded at least two goals in eight of their past nine away matches, while Barcelona have scored four or more in four of their past five home matches.

Alvaro Negredo continues to attract attention from big teams across Europe, as he again spearheads Sevilla's attack. With 10 league goals, Negredo is tied for eighth in the La Liga scoring charts.

Ivan Rakitic is the playmaker, and the Croatian international has racked up six assists in the league, first on the team. His five goals are second to Negredo, while he's also first in the key passes stat with 2.8 per game

Jesus Navas has made his mark with the Spanish national team (he initiated the attack that resulted in Andres Iniesta's World Cup winning goal) and thus attracted contract offers from all across Europe. However, he may never leave Andalusia as he suffers from severe homesickness.

In any case, the winger remains a key engine of Los Rojiblancos. With three assists and three goals, Navas is another man to watch.

In defense, Emir Spahic and Cicinho have started to gain plaudits. Spahic is strong in the air but also a good passer, while Cicinho is a good dribbler yet he also has good tackling technique.

Cicinho is yet another Brazilian fullback who is known for his attacking prowess, but he's not bad defensively, either. This season, he, along with Jesus Navas, went up against Real Madrid's left flank featuring Cristiano Ronaldo and won.

Sevilla should play in their base 4-2-3-1 formation, with an emphasis on countering down either side of the pitch. They will need their midfield players to perform a great shift in the middle of the park to stifle the Blaugrana passing attack.

Sevilla like to play wide and attack down the flanks. With the services of Navas and Jose Antonio Reyes, not to mention Cicinho and Fernando Navarro at the fullback positions, Sevilla are dangerous on the wings. Standing at 6'1'', Negredo is a good target to aim for, and he's shown he can finish off chances with his head.

However, the coach Unai Emery has a few decisions to make with an eye on the upcoming cup match. Some players will need to be rotated. The question is: will Emery field a strong team, given the quality of the opposition? Or will he attempt to cut his losses and focus on the cup match primarily?

Andres Palop, a former Spain international, is doubtful in goal. With Diego Lopez sold off to Real Madrid, Beto should be in charge of the away side's goal. Beto came on loan from SC Braga after the Andalusians sold Lopez, and he's had little time to acclimate himself. Still, he's put in good showings so far - though some question his ability to deal with crosses.

In defense, Spahic is injured which means Federico Fazio and former Barca player Alberto Botia should start in defense. At right-back, Coke could deputize for Cicinho, while Alberto Moreno is Navarro's rotation option.

Gary Medel, coming off a brace against Deportivo, should take up a spot in midfield. The Chilean is a rough tackler, and he will be even madder than usual, as he feels he was unfairly sent off in the last meeting between the sides. Geoffrey Kondogbia would then take the other spot in the center of the pitch, though Hedwiges Maduro is a possibility.

Piotr Trochowski remains on a long-term injury (his last match was against Barcelona in the previous round) and with Diego Perotti out as well, Sevilla have limited options down the flanks. If they want to rest Reyes or Navas, Manu del Moral could play.

Rakitic should then take the place behind the main striker, though hypothetically Reyes or del Moral could play there, too. There is a possibility that Sevilla could go 4-3-3, with a more conservative midfield trio of Maduro, Kondogbia, and Medel, Negredo should then be the frontman, though hypothetically Baba could spell him.

Sevilla have talent - the likes of Negredo, Navas, and Rakitic are in the sights of the big teams across Europe. Still, like Navas, they seem to get a little homesick. Away from the Sanchez Pizjuan, they have been a little uneasy.

Barcelona are at home and they're mad. They want to put the poor results behind them, but they also have to consider the big games coming up. Resting key players, are they perhaps vulnerable to the challenge? Or will they produce yet another vintage performance?

La Liga: FC Barcelona 2-1 Sevilla FC: Match Review - Barca Blaugranes (blog)

Barcelona recovered from a disappointing first-half performance to secure a comeback victory against Unai Emery's Sevilla on Saturday evening at the Camp Nou. The win, which temporarily extends BarƧa's lead at the top of La Liga to a staggering fifteen points, comes courtesy of second-half goals from David Villa and Lionel Messi; not bad for a team in crisis...

With Tuesday's Copa del Rey Clasico in mind, Jordi Roura made six changes to the side that lost 2-0 at the San Siro against AC Milan, as Javier Mascherano, Martin Montoya, Alex Song, Thiago AlcĆ¢ntara, David Villa and Alexis SĆ”nchez were all granted a place in the starting XI. Carles Puyol dropped out of the squad altogether as a precautionary measure following a nasty collision with Giampaolo Pazzini in Wednesday's defeat while the other five simply took their place on the bench. Despite the changes, Lionel Messi started in attack, with AndrĆ©s Iniesta and Gerard PiquĆ© also starting in midfield and defense respectively. Would the Blaugrana be able to secure the three points and build up some momentum heading into an El Clasico double-header?

Unai Emery also took the chance to rotate one key member of his starting XI, as Alvaro Negredo dropped to the bench for tactical reasons with Senegalese forward Baba Diawara taking his place as the lone-front man. After watching Milan shut-up shop to great effect at the San Siro, Emery favoured a slightly more open approach. Sure, the defense was disciplined and he ensured that plenty of men were behind the ball whenever BarƧa got the ball, but there was at least some space for the Blaugrana attack to exploit. As per usual, Messi was at the forefront of Barcelona's early pressure and he created the game's first chance with a nice through ball to AndrƩs Iniesta who had found space on the left. Iniesta proceeded to skip past the sliding challenge of Coke, but in doing so he also allowed Sevilla the time to recover and block his goal-bound shot.

It took Barcelona ten minutes to register another shot – as Messi struck a free-kick into the Sevilla wall – but they were slowly but surely beginning to exert control over the game. Sevilla dropped a little deeper; gave away possession a lot more frequently and it wasn't long before Barcelona started to carve out chances. Dani Alves came close to breaking the deadlock on 21 minutes, as his long-range effort left Beto flat-footed, but his shot was deflected behind for a corner kick. Surprisingly, BarƧa created another chance from that corner as the ball was worked to Lionel Messi at the far-post, who forced a nice save from Beto with a well-struck right-footed shot. Unfortunately, we couldn't say the same of Messi's free-kicks; the Argentine failed to hit the target with even one of his three first-half free-kicks and typically, he was made to rue those misses as Sevilla took the lead just minutes before half-time.

It was a relatively simple goal to concede as well; Martin Montoya misjudged the flight of a Sevilla free-kick allowing Coke the space to deliver a cross into the heart of the Barcelona defense, where Alberto Botia capitalised on a defensive mismatch to climb above Dani Alves and head Sevilla into the lead. Maybe this was the wake-up call that the players needed; now a goal down at the Camp Nou, BarƧa appeared to up the intensity and they could have levelled the scores before the break – if only someone had taken a chance on Montoya's low cross.

Jordi Roura made a change at the interval, replacing Alexis SƔnchez with Cristian Tello and the Spaniard made an instant impact. Everyone knows that Tello has pace to burn and if the first few minutes of the second-half were anything to go by, Coke just couldn't cope, and just as Tello was forcing the issue with Coke, BarƧa began to force the issue with the rest of the Sevilla defense. Unsurprisingly, an equaliser soon followed.

Credit to Dani Alves for providing the assist with a picture-perfect cross, but what about the header from David Villa? In his first match back from illness, Villa had understandably struggled to impose himself in the first-half but he was ready to make an impact, peeling off Alberto Botia to convert from the edge of the six-yard box. It was Villa's twelfth goal of the season and a fitting reminder of the extra dimension El Guaje brings to the Barcelona attack.

Was the crisis over? Clearly Barcelona remain perfectly capable of scoring goals – despite the hysteria after Wednesday's loss – and just to hammer that point home, Lionel Messi completed the comeback on the hour-mark, slotting home from ten yards after a selfless cut-back from Cristian Tello. It was Messi's 38th La Liga goal of the season and Tello's fifth assist; whatever Roura (or Tito) said at half-time, it was working: Barcelona were back.

Emery was determined to spoil the party though, immediately responding with a substitution of his own as Alvaro Negredo replaced the ineffective Baba in attack. They obviously fancied their chances against a shaky Blaugrana defense, but Roura recognised the danger, and introduced Xavi to the fray. The idea was relatively straight-forward: Sevilla needed possession to score an equaliser and Xavi was the man who could keep that from happening; but the execution was lacking. Sevilla were still threatening and came within inches of an equaliser through substitute Alvaro Negredo, so Roura went one step further and brought Sergio Busquets on for David Villa. This necessitated a slight tactical reshuffle, but BarƧa responded to the change well and looked slightly more assured as a result. Sevilla were now finding it difficult to even win possession let alone engineer a chance at an equaliser, and thanks to some composed defending in injury-time from Mascherano, Barcelona managed to hold out for a valuable victory.

Next up, Barcelona host Real Madrid in a Copa del Rey semi-final second-leg before, yep, you guessed it, facing Los Blancos in yet another Clasico next Saturday. Until then, Visca el BarƧa!

Hoyas top Orange in rivalry finale at Carrier Dome

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Georgetown coach John Thompson III wouldn't bite. He wasn't about to say: "This Carrier Dome rivalry is officially over."

Thirty-three years after his father became persona non grata in Syracuse, Thompson and star Otto Porter added their names to the lore of the Georgetown-Syracuse rivalry.

It was the final game between Georgetown (21-4, 11-3 Big East) and Syracuse (22-5, 10-4) in the Carrier Dome as members of the same conference — the Orange are leaving the Big East in July to join the Atlantic Coast Conference.

"I'm sure you're waiting for a Manley Field House statement," Thompson said with a smile. "You're not going to get it. We don't get frazzled too much. It's good to win here. We were the last team to win here, but there's still a lot of ball to play. It's one win."

The victory placed an emphatic stamp on the impending end of an era before an imposing Orange crowd. It snapped the Orange's 38-game home winning streak, the longest in the nation, and came 33 years after John Thompson Jr.'s Hoyas halted the Orange's 57-game home winning streak at Manley. Both streaks were school records in the respective buildings.

Porter's incredible play — open more often than not against Syracuse's 2-3 zone, he was 12 of 19, including five 3-pointers, and had a game-high five steals — came in front of a disappointed record crowd of 35,012, the largest ever to see a college basketball on a school campus. It was the fewest points scored at home by Syracuse in the Carrier Dome, which opened in 1980.

"Porter was so good today," Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said. "He just dominated the game. He really won the game. He had to make plays and made them all day. Offensively, the games that we have lost we have struggled shooting the basketball, and today was no exception. I thought the game got away from us early."

Georgetown has held opponents under 60 points 17 times, allowing 56.1 points per game, with 11 of last 12 opponents shooting below 40 percent. Syracuse joined the list, shooting 17 of 50 (34 percent) and going 5 of 20 on 3-pointers.

"He (Porter) obviously had a great game, a great shooting game," said Syracuse senior guard Brandon Triche, who struggled in a 4-of-13 shooting performance, making just 1 of 7 from behind the arc. "We didn't take anything away. We didn't take his drive away. We didn't take his 3-point shot, midrange shot. Once he gets going, he's obviously going to be very hard to stop, especially playing zone."

Fittingly, Syracuse began its latest home win streak after a loss to Georgetown just over two years ago. That was Thompson III's first win in the Carrier Dome and a huge relief at the time. Like Boeheim, he heaped lavish praise on his star.

"It was special. That's the only way to categorize it," Thompson said of Porter's performance. "You saw the show that I saw. To play up here against that opponent, that's what players do, and he's a special player."

This one surely wasn't easy for the young Hoyas. The stands surrounding Jim Boeheim Court were jammed with 35,012 fans, who transformed the building into a raging sea of orange. Former star Carmelo Anthony's jersey was retired in a halftime ceremony with the Orange in the locker room holding a 23-21 lead after a late surge in the closing seconds of the opening half.

Porter, who injured his right knee in a win over DePaul on Wednesday night, had other ideas. He was unstoppable after a slow start and was the only Georgetown player in double figures, putting the game away late.

After C.J. Fair stole an inbounds pass and fed Michael Carter-Williams for a slam dunk to move Syracuse within 41-37 with 6:48 to play, Porter hit a fallaway 3-pointer as he was fouled by Triche and hit the free throw for a four-point play.

"I don't know how that went in. I was speechless," Porter said. "We just stayed poised. We just went out there and played."

Just how intense the rivalry has been is reflected by Boeheim's record against the Hoyas. The second-winningest coach in Division I history, Boeheim is just 37-35 despite an overall record of 912-309, a 74.8 winning percentage.

Georgetown has won nine straight, the longest current winning streak in the league, and the Hoyas will host Syracuse in two weeks.

Fair had 13 points and seven rebounds and James Southerland scored 13 points to pace Syracuse, while Carter-Williams had seven points and five assists.

Syracuse rallied in the final minute of the first half to take a two-point lead, but the Hoyas erased the deficit quickly with a 10-2 spurt early in the second half keyed by Porter. He hit a 3 from the right wing, another from the left side, then stole a pass by Carter-Williams and hit a pullup jumper in the lane. D'Vaun Smith-Rivera's 3 from the left corner slammed both sides of the rim and dropped in for a 39-31 lead with 11:16 to play.

Southerland swished a 3 from the top of the key off a feed from Carter-Williams to stop the skid and Georgetown was called for a shot-clock violation when its slow-paced attack backfired, but the Orange could not muster another rally.

Syracuse used its home-crowd advantage — the Dome was rocking like the days of yesteryear — to run off a 10-2 spurt early. Triche and Southerland hit 3-pointers on consecutive trips down court as the Hoyas sputtered, missing often in close and from afar. The Hoyas made just one basket, a foul-line jumper by Porter after a block by Fair — in the first 9 minutes while missing their first eight attempts from long range.

"Offensively, we did have them on the ropes in the first half," Triche said. "But we ended up shooting a bunch of jump shots (and missing), and they got right back in the game."

The play was spirited, as it usually is when these teams meet. But after a flurry of misses under the Georgetown basket, the Hoyas maintained possession and Porter began to display the form that has made him a favorite to win Big East player of the year honors.

The 6-foot-8 sophomore swished a 3 from the wing to start a 17-3 spurt in which he scored 14 points. He then converted a slam off a turnover by Rakeem Christmas to give the Hoyas their first lead, and hit another 3 and a baseline jumper to complete the rush and put Georgetown up 21-15 as a hush fell over the Dome.

Carter-Williams stopped the slide with a three-point play for the Orange. Fair followed with a baseline floater and Southerland drained a 3 at the shot-clock buzzer in the final seconds off a feed from Triche.

The Georgetown-Syracuse rivalry was unmatched in its heyday in the 1980s and early 1990s and helped transform the Big East into the behemoth it's been for so long. Future games between the teams — both schools have indicated they want to keep playing — will have a different feel after this season.

The teams have played 88 times since 1930 and 20 of those games were decided by one or two points, and 12 were settled in overtime.

No wonder that students camped all week outside the Dome to be part of the crowd. Not only did they get to witness history, Boeheim and assistants Mike Hopkins and Adrian Autry stopped by on Friday with coffee and refreshments in appreciation of their support.

In that memorable game 33 years ago, the Hoyas beat Syracuse 52-50 in the last regularly scheduled game at Manley when Eric "Sleepy" Floyd made free throws with 5 seconds to play. Afterward, Thompson Jr. declared — "Manley Field House is now officially closed" — and a rivalry was born.

Casillas recovering from surgery desires with a championship title this year

Iker Casillas says his recovery from a broken bone in his hand goes a lot better than expected and he could possibly be right back between your Real Madrid posts when late March.

Casillas' finger was broken by a random kick from his team-mate Alvaro Arbeloa throughout Madrid's Copa del Rey quarter-final sport at the Mestalla on January 23.

It absolutely was feared he would experience three months on the sidelines, and the club moved quickly to signal Diego Lopez for 3.5 million from Sevilla to perform in their likely season-defining games against Barcelona in the Copa and Manchester United in the Champions League.

The Madrid club captain told reporters on Thursday night, at the opening of a new club store at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, that the original timeframe had only been a worst-case scenario.

"I am feeling very positive," Casillas said. "The surgeon gave the worst-case scenario to me, he explained it might take three months. But when the splint was removed last week, I was told I'd one month left. Now I am doing active exercises to obtain flexibility and energy back the finger."

Casillas said he'd been working hard at Madrid's Valdebebas training service to obtain back playing as soon as possible.

"Until now I have not had much power in it, but I am getting it back little by little," he said. "We have reached the halfway point of the damage. I've still got monthly to go. I'll need to work more and suffer more to obtain straight back the mobility of before. I'm getting excited about returning. It's worse being off the pitch than on it."

The function was also attended by Casillas' team-mates including Arbeloa, Xabi Alonso, Karim Benzema, Angel Di Maria, Jose Callejon, Nacho and Kaka, although coach Jose Mourinho was missing.

Alonso told reporters that he did not know yet whether he'd get over his crotch issue in time for next Tuesday's Copa semi-final second leg at Barcelona's Camp Nou.

"I am in the restoration stage," the midfielder said. "I am hoping to get better the moment possible, to get rid of the disquiet and get back in top form. Lots of people ask when I'll prepare yourself. I aspire to manage to perform against Barca, but I don't have an answer right now."

Former Liverpool person Alonso said that, with the link balanced at 1-1, whoever scored first in the Champions League last 16 get back sport at Manchester United on March 5 will be favourites to succeed.

"They can have the help of their fans," he said. "It will be considered a concern. The medial side that scores first will undoubtedly be favourites. Old Trafford is a great ground and it's the type of match all of us like to play. The link is very open."

Di Maria said that it could suit Madrid to be playing overseas in both of the upcoming, possibly season-defining, games.

"Things are going well and develop to keep this way," he explained. "We know that we have to have large matches in both tournaments and that it will not be easy. Because we prosper when things are against us maybe playing away is going to be within our favor. We've had this week to work with the simplest way to approach the games. I really hope everything goes well."

Benzema, who remains any doubt for Saturday evening's La Liga game at Deportivo La Coruna, said he was not focused on his current bad form facing goal.

"I hope than I have so far that I score more goals, nevertheless the thing may be the squad and to win the forthcoming matches," he said. "We have to interact to win. We have a great group and we're all in good form."

Ricardo Kaka performed terrific in the match against Deportivo La Coruna

"From the initial moment of the second half we found a big change of attitude. We didn't get because of the alterations, which were made in the twelfth minute of the 2nd half, but because of the change we made. It had been the attitude of all the participants that sparked the recovery.

"It does work that actually he [Kaka] is playing well. His frame of mind helps him and this is very important to the group, that he's another alternative and that he is playing well. That's usually good.

Kaka's performance also received the praise of assistant coach Aitor Karanka, who was pleased about the result of the group after planning behind to a Riki hit on 35 minutes.
"We knew that Deportivo weren't playing well and saw us as an opportunity to change their fortunes. However in the 2nd half we increased our play, we scored two goals and we could get the three items home with us."

The win moved Real to within 13 points of group leaders Barcelona, before Blaugrana edged out Sevilla later on Saturday morning. Inspite of the margin remaining the same, Kaka thinks success over Depor can improve Real's odds of claiming wallpaper this term.

"I am better. What we have around the corner is interesting and it's the critical part of the period and if the director wants me to play I'll be there to greatly help in these matches."

"The team is playing well and things are getting better for me also. In football everything changes rapidly and I'm very happy to help the team win.
"[It was] an essential victory really difficult match. In the very first half we were just a little anxious and a few mistakes were made by us. In the second half we improved and we won three points which are essential for us and for what's ahead over the next several weeks," Kaka told the club's officials website.
Real originated from behind at the Riazor, with Kaka rating the equaliser before Gonzalo Higuain won an 88th-minute winner for the visitors. After putting up with a difficult spell with minimal sport time, Kaka now feels he is able to help his team because they turn to hold their Manhunter Liga and Champions League hopes alive.

Kaka has expressed pleasure at his recent change in fortunes, as the playmaker starred in Real Madrid's 2-1 comeback win over Deportivo La Coruna.

Ricardo Kaka performed excellent in the match against La Coruna

"From the first second of the 2nd half we saw a change of attitude. We didn't get because of the alternatives, that have been made in the second of the second half, but because of the change we made. It had been the attitude of all the players that started the comeback.

"It is true that seriously he [Kaka] is playing well. He is helped by his state of mind and this is essential for the team, that he is another option and that he's playing well. That is always positive.

Kaka's performance also earned the praise of assistant coach Aitor Karanka, who was happy with the result of the squad after planning behind to a Riki attack on 35 minutes.
"We knew that Deportivo were not playing well and saw us as an chance to change their fortunes. But in the 2nd half we increased our play, we scored two goals and we could just take the three things house or apartment with us."

The gain moved Real to within 13 factors of group leaders Barcelona, before Blaugrana surrounded out Sevilla afterwards Saturday evening. Regardless of the profit remaining the same, Kaka feels success over Depor may increase Real's odds of claiming silverware this phrase.

"I am much better. What we have nearby is exciting and it is the major the main season and if the boss wants me to play I'll be there to greatly help in those matches."

"The team is playing well and things are becoming better for me personally also. In football every thing changes quickly and I am pleased to support the team win.
"[It was] a significant success in an exceedingly hard match. In the very first half we were only a little nervous and we made several mistakes. In the 2nd half we increased and we won three points which are essential for us and for what's to come over the next few weeks," Kaka told the club's officials website.

Robin van Persie injury: Striker taken off early for Manchester United ...

Robin van Persie was withdrawn midway through the first half in Manchester United's game against Queens Park Rangers, with fears the striker could have picked up a back injury.

Robin van Persie has been withdrawn for Manchester United in the first half of their game against Queens Park Rangers.

The Dutchman has played almost 2800 minutes of football for United without being injured, but it was perhaps always likely to happen eventually. The injury did not seem hugely serious, merely a slight problem with his back, and the decision to withdraw him early could perhaps be a precaution, with the Red Devils enjoying a 1-0 lead and with a Champions League clash against Real Madrid on the horizon. The striker was notoriously injury-prone during his Arsenal tenure, but had not shown any signs of his fragility so far at United.

Danny Welbeck was the man to replace Van Persie, and with United 1-0 up thanks to a stunner from Rafael, they will still be hopeful of a victory without their star striker that will leave them 15 points clear at the top of the table.

Seattle Womens Baseball Round-up - Sounder In Your Mind

It was a busy week in the world of Seattle's women's soccer programs as Michelle French is moving on, coaches were hired and Hope Solo found out she needs surgery.

We now know where Michelle French will be coaching this season, and it isn't for the Seattle Sounders Women. She has been tapped to become the first full-time US U-20 WNT coach. It will be her job to mold the future full team members, while also working with the U-17 and U-18 teams to recognize and develop the next Alex Morgan's and Sydney Leroux's.

Her first major challenge will be qualifying for the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. That event will be held in Canada as a precursor to the next FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada in 2015. Her first qualifying competition will be in early March in La Manga, Spain, where the USA will face Norway, Germany and Sweden. I think that the future looks bright indeed with Frenchie at the helm. She has a knack of developing a player's strengths and understands what young players will need in order to succeed on the senior USWNT.

To be a part of the Seattle Sounders Women's Organization this past summer was an experience that I am extremely grateful for and will always cherish. From the first day that I signed on as head coach last season, it was clear that through the dedication of ownership, staff, and players, something big was about to happen. Not only did the team become comprised of notable USWNT players like Hope Solo and Alex Morgan, we also had many local and national collegiate stars that created the most memorable women's soccer season in Seattle. The intimate game day experience at Starfire Stadium was unlike any other environment we saw during the season. As a result of the commitment of our owners Cliff McElroy and Lane Smith, coupled with the outstanding Sounders Women's staff, the product presented on and off the field was top notch. From live webcasts and broadcasts on the road by Jon Billings, to excellent USL coverage, the season proved to be professional in every sense of the word. Lastly, the remarkable record-setting Northwest fans made the season one that I know many players, as well as myself, will never forget.

At this point in my coaching career, I've decided not to return as the Seattle Sounders Women's head coach, in order to remain committed and dedicated to the development of youth soccer through my other coaching commitments. I will continue to follow the development of the team and am extremely excited to watch and support them this upcoming season. I sincerely appreciate all of the support from ownership and look forward to continuing to be a fan of the organization. The Seattle Sounders Women's past season proved what an incredibly electric and exciting atmosphere can be created in Seattle, and I have no doubt the Sounders Women will continue to be at the forefront of the development of women's soccer in the Northwest.

With that announcement came the obvious vacancy at the Seattle Sounders Women for a head coach. Which has now been filled. SSW announced the hiring of Hubert Busby Jr. as the club's new Head Coach and General Manager.

Per the teams statement, "Busby brings over 13 years of coaching some of the highest levels of women's soccer in North America. His resume features contributions to every woman's professional league in the United States (WPS, W-League and WPSL Elite) over the last decade. Most recently he has been involved with the Western New York Flash (NWSL), and the Vancouver Whitecaps Women. He has also served as a National Training Center coach in Canada."

He will be working closely with Technical Director, Lesle Gallimore to recruit players and grow the Sounders Women brand in the community. With Gallimore's contacts through her long, continuing career as the Head Coach for the UW Women's team, and his experience as both player and coach at all level's, the SSW should be able to field another outstanding team.

"We're thrilled to add Hubert to our staff. His professionalism and enthusiasm for the job has bread success everywhere he's been," said Executive Director, Jon Billings. "Between Hubert and Lesle Gallimore, we have an incredible amount of coaching acumen, management experience, and player recruiting networks to lead our team."

The Seattle Reign FC were also busy behind the scenes filling out their staff. The Reign have named Sam Laity as the top assistant coach. Coach Laity is a native of Plymouth, England, but has called the Seattle area home since 2001. Per the Reign's press release, he has been "coaching and serving as director of the junior academy for Pacific Northwest Soccer Club in Tukwila, Wash. He previously coached locally with Dos FC, Westsound FC and Pacific Premier while also serving as regional staff instructor for the NSCAA."

"I'm thrilled and excited to be working with Laura Harvey and Seattle Reign FC," said Laity. "Seattle fans deserve the very best, and I'm looking forward to being part of a club that sets the standard on and off the field, in the NWSL and beyond."

The Reign have been dealt another potential roster blow with the announced injury to keeper Hope Solo. She has been playing with a ligament injury in her left wrist. With the Algarve Cup being the only major competition for the USWNT this summer, the training staff has suggested that now is the time to have the injury addressed. According to the Reign's Facebook page, "surgery on her wrist is being planned for next week. Recovery time has been initially estimated at 6-8 weeks, so with a bit of luck we'll have Hope back near the start of the season." Solo has proven that she can come back from injuries, and I'm sure she'll be back quickly.

Roughneck Scarves has announced that they will be providing the scarves for the Reign this season. This ought to get you a little more excited. They, and T-shirts, should be available in mid-March. For ticket information please visit SeattleReinFC.com.

Eredivisie: Janmaat on Wengers radar - ClubCall.com

Feyenoord right-back Daryl Janmaat is reportedly being targeted by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as Bacary Sagna's possible replacement.

France interntional Sagna is believed to be weighing up his options for this summer as he will be approaching the final year of his Gunners' contract at the end of this season.Paris Saint Germain, Inter Milan and a clutch of Middle Eastern clubs are thought to be eyeing up the 30-year-old, who could be tempted to depart the Emirates Stadium as the Londoners are poised for another trophyless campaign in addition to the fact he is only likely to be offered a 12-month extension. Therefore, 23-year-old Dutch star Janmaat is thought to be one of Wenger's top targets should Sagna depart, with scouts watching him in action regularly this season.Janmaat only joined Feyenoord from Heerenveen last summer, but Arsenal's relationship with the Dutch outfit might help them negotiate a deal with them when the transfer window opens for business in June.

Collection 1-3 Bayern Munich: Match report and pictures|The Sun...

Yes, there is another leg in the future but make no error, the Gunners are goners. Out within the last 16 of the Champions League, out of the FA Cup, out of the running for the League and out of the Capital One Cup, perhaps a top-four end. Therefore will the Frenchman soon be out of a job? GUNNERS employer continues to have faith in his fake defence... but admits odds are stacked against them Apparently billionaire shareholders Stan Kroenke and Alisher Usmanov were both in the capital yesterday evening seeing a and grimacing for much of it probably. KROOS GET a grip on... hero Toni becomes in triumph Mind you, the fit started amid a vivid setting and red flares with Arsenal fans baying for an effect after the FA Cup exit to Blackburn at the weekend. The early signs were promising. Unfortunately they didn't last long. Each of a the imperious German champions-elect clicked into gear and Arsenal could not manage. And in the seventh minute they were behind. We are practical and we know how hard it's likely to be - nevertheless now it's time to return to emphasizing the Prem A mis-hit cross from Thomas Muller should have been cut out by Aaron Ramsey. It was missed by the Welshman and the ball bounced twice on the way through the location to Toni Kroos, who pounced on it in a flash. He got a shot absent before Arsenal centre-back Pers Mertesacker might get in his block and the ball drilled into the turf and beyond Wojciech Szczesny. MULLER TIME... Jones Muller makes it 2-0 The Gunners were rocked. The guys from Munchen were on a roll. Elegant, sophisticated and easy. They bossed person, sprayed the ball around with consummate ease and revelled in putting on a show. On the rare occasions when they dropped the ball they hunted in packs eager to gain it straight back a' and usually they did. It had been similar to still another good team from back in the afternoon a oh what were they called? Oh yes, thatas right a' Arsenal! That has been in the time when Arsenal were positively A-list. Now they are B-list and falling rapidly. System midfielder says after they paid the purchase price for going all out to gain the complete group is disappointed Sunk by Bradford, sunk by Blackburn and plunging to very low against brilliant Bayern. The readers are on a crest of a wave. Working away with the Bundesliga, they came to North London yet to admit in 2013. So when they went 2-0 up in the 21st minute an inevitable feeling swept over The Emirates a' link over!Franck Ribery began all of it with a spectacular crossfield move to Philipp Lahm, whose cross was made behind for a corner. Daniel van Buyten increased at the post to energy in a close-range header. Szczesny reacted quickly to parry it in doing this offered it up on a plate to the rebound was rifled by Muller, who in to the top of the web. FLOP GUNNERS... Cazorla, Walcott and Koscielny can't believe it Ominous. Last yearas overwhelmed finalists seemed therefore in order that it appeared as if they certainly were playing within their own Allianz Arena. But that apleasurea still awaits Arsenal. And the closest they found joy in the opening 45 minutes was hearing the half-time whistle. They went in knowing it could have now been worse. In damage time, a header was steered by Mario Mandzukic just beyond an article after obtaining in unseen. It had been a near thing however the miss didn't undertake any real meaning until following the break. For Arsenal dug deep and hit right back, albeit with a hand from Munich owner Manuel Neuer. Or no arms at since it all turned out. certainly one of the best in the world the German international keeper is rightly regarded. And he delivers his side are often so dominant in fits that he does not need a bath afterwards. He needed one yesterday evening a' to use and wash away the humiliation of the 55th-minute clanger. FIRED UP... Bayern Munich supporters Neuer went off his line towards the six-yard line in a bid to declare a cross but was blocked off with a crowd of participants. As he stood forlornly with his arms by his side, the ball fell to Lukas Podolski who could not believe his luck and made number mistake with an opportunist header. Suddenly the notion started initially to increase that there might be a fantastic transformation. The ever-willing Theo Walcott flashed a shot across the crowd started to roar and the face of purpose. There when Wenger made a double substitution with 19 minutes to go, was some dissent in the ranks, though. Maybe not because Tomas Rosicky replaced Ramsey but because goalscorer Podolski was making method for Olivier Giroud. One angry fan near the Press box screamed at the Frenchman: aYou donat understand what you doing.a But then Walcott crossed and Giroud let fly but straight at the owner. Wenger shook his head. It was almost a masterstroke. FEMALE LUK... Podolski results after corner fluke But that's the problem nowadays a' Arsenal would be the nearly men. How essential a neglect it had been turned cruelly clear 13 minutes from time. Mandzukic laid the ball off left to sub Arjen Robben, who scampered forward and then rolled it into the way of Lahm. He slice the ball over the six-yard region where before the finishing touch could be applyed by Mandzukic Bacary Sagna desperately tried to intervene. He didn't make it, instead throwing the ball against the high striker and watching in horror as the ball looped up and in the internet. Gunnersa Jack Wilshere had a opportunity while subscription Mario Gomez blazed at one other end. And all to the noise of aFootballas coming homea and amazement only play when weare winninga from the memorable Germans. Ouch!

Bundesliga 2013, Week 22 critique and fixtures: Battle for second...

While Bayern Munich have the concept all but covered up, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund face one another in a match with second put on the point. After several weeks of remarkable action in the Champions League and Europa League, the Bundesliga disappointed this week with three draws and three failures. League play this weekend to returns with an enormous fight for second position going on between Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt. Elsewhere, Bayern look to help keep cruising at Wolfsburg, Mainz host Schalke that are still trying to regroup, and Werder Bremen look to carry on their ability against Freiburg Wolfsburg compared to Bayern Munich - 20:30 CET / 2:30 PM ETI could go on a lengthy explanation on why Bayern Munich can come away from the Volkswagen Arena with a victory on Friday evening, however it isn't actually necessary. Simply put: Bayern are playing better than everyone. They've won all four matches since returning from winter months break outscoring competitors 11-0. Oh, yes, they are unbeaten within their last a dozen. They have also been playing out of their head away from the Allianz. They've eight wins and one pull, and they have outscored their opponents 25-1. WHAT? I really do not like your odds, Wolfsburg.Prediction: Wolfsburg 0 - 3 Bayern Munich Werder Bremen compared to Freiburg - 15:30 CET / 9:30 AM ETFreiburg have already been one of the shock sides of the year and are still sitting in fifth invest the Bundesliga table. If you had to guess the team with by far the 2nd best defense in the Bundesliga, you might not guess Freiburg. Well, you'd be wrong. Pavel Krmas and Diagne Fallou have anchored a protection that's just bested by Bayern now in the summer season. They've only helped 20 objectives to date, and the couple have been a good wall facing goalkeeper Oliver Baumann. Werder Bremen are the way down in 11th position, but only three points divides the two sides. They've been very up and down in 2010 with nine wins, four draws, and nine losses. Would they put things together and get a massive win over a hardcore opponent?Prediction: Werder Bremen 1 - 0 Freiburg Bayer Leverkusen compared to Augsburg - 15:30 CET / 9:30 AM ETAfter a good first half the summer season where they were simply the only area that can still see Bayern Munich in the table, Bayer Leverkusen have hit a snags since returning for the wintertime break with draws against Freiburg and Borussia MAnchengladbach and a to Borussia Dortmund. In the Europa League midweek, they certainly were totally bad against Benfica. They have began to collapse a bit defensively, and Augsburg is an excellent opposition to be coming in and generate only a little confidence in your team. Because the winter break, Augsburg are undefeated. The issue is just one of the four matches has been a win. They require the things. They are one mention of the relegation playoff spot and seven points from escaping relegation completely.Prediction: Bayer Leverkusen 2 - 0 Augsburg Fortuna DAsseldorf versus Greuther FArth - 15:30 CET / 9:30 AM ETOof, this match is actually a little raw to view. Fortuna DAsseldorf are sitting in 15th place, while Greuther FArth are propping up the bottom of the table. While both of FArth's wins this year have come abroad, DAsseldorf must manage them in this match. It will be considered a grind.Prediction: Fortuna DAsseldorf 1 - 0 Greuther FArth Mainz versus Schalke - 15:30 CET / 9:30 AM ETWhile sitting back and contemplating what's going on at Schalke, I believe I finally thought it out. The team that we found through early November was abducted by aliens and changed by a of awful, awful, awful participants. No? That is maybe not right? Uh oh, they are in big trouble. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is anticipated to skip another match for the membership, and there are several rumors that Jens Keller is considering likely to a strikerless development. Mainz are in sixth invest the table thanks to a remarkable defense. Can they hold this Schalke side from rating? Yeah, they sure could. Will they? I've no reasons why I'm taking them, but I think Schalke somehow... Somehow... Get this one.Prediction: Mainz 0 - 1 Schalke Hamburg vs Borussia MAnchengladbach - 15:30 CET / 9:30 AM ETHamburg took all six points from Borussia Dortmund this year with 3-2 victory at the Volksparkstadion and a stunning 4-1 smashing at the Westfalenstadion last week-end. They followed up the initial match with a 2-2 sketch at Gladbach. They can definitely repeat. Hamburg are enjoying effectively with Artjoms Rudnevs and Heung-Min Son with twenty and nine targets respectively. Borussia MAnchengladbach's games since returning from winter months break with one win, one reduction, and two draws. Couple that with their midweek 3-3 pull with Lazio, and you see they are not just rating goals but conceding them as well.Prediction: Hamburg 2 - 2 Borussia MAnchengladbach Borussia Dortmund vs Eintracht Frankfurt - 18:30 CET / 9:30 AM ETFar and away the choice for "Match of the Weekend", Eintracht Frankfurt travel to the Westfalenstadion to battle Borussia Dortmund. The hosts are in second place and the guests in fourth place, but they are only divided by two factors. BVB had a difficult match midweek in the Champions group away to Shakhtar Donetsk. Both teams have a tendency for high scoring matches this year, so that it should really be a Borussia Dortmund 2 - 3 Eintracht Frankfurt NArnberg versus Hannover - 15:30 CET / 9:30 AM ETNArnberg look like they are too much away to be frustrated by relegation, but they're not playing well enough to challenge for a European place. They've performed ok considering that the winter break and obtain the added advantage of Hannover coming of a European League game. Spain was unkind to Hannover, as they were given a reduction at the hands of Anzhi Makhachkala Thursday. They have been really battling defensively in 2010, but NArnberg don't really have the participants to provide them a lot of issues Sunday.Prediction: NArnberg 1 - 1 Hannover Hoffenheim compared to Stuttgart - 17:30 CET / their last five Bundesliga matches have been lost by 11:30 AM ETStuttgart with a combined score of 14-3. Seriously. They're down in 14th position, and it leaves you wondering so how Bruno Labbadia features a job. The group is listless, and some thing must occur to change things. Yep, I'd this team finishing 2nd in the Bundesliga this year. Oof. Which was a mistake. Hoffenheim are in the relegation playoff place, but they just have a stage lead over 17th place Augsburg. It is time for Hoffenheim to start if they want to remain in the Bundesliga.Prediction: Hoffenheim 2 - 2 Stuttgart shaping up

Carlo Ancelotti Agrees Deal to Take Over as Real Madrid Boss This ...

The Daily Mirror is today reporting news from French source Le Parisien that states that Carlo Ancelotti has already agreed terms with Real Madrid ahead of a move to take over from under-fire boss Jose Mourinho at the Bernabeu.

fanatix tickets – El Clasico tickets are still available for the biggest derby match in Europe.Real Madrid vs Barcelona tickets are on sale for this massive La Liga clash at the Bernabeau on March 3rd.

The former Chelsea and AC Milan manager is said to have made a verbal agreement with the Spanish giants and will leave big spending PSG at the end of the current campaign.

Ancelotti has helped guide PSG to the top of Ligue 1 and into the last 16 of the Champions League but is still seemingly not all that stable in his position at the French capital club, stating recently;

"Yes, I want to stay. But I know that, at the end of the season, the club will decide if it is happy or not with my work."

Similarly Mourinho is strongly linked with a Real Madrid exit even though he helped the club to a La Liga crown last season.

The Portuguese boss has fallen out with a number of his star performers, resulting most recently in the surprising decision to drop skipper Iker Casillas in recent weeks, before the Spanish keeper then suffered a hand injury.

Eredivisie wrap: PSV hit back at home - Soccerway

16 February 2013 23:36 PSV consolidated their place on the surface of the Eredivisie desk with a hard-fought 2-1 win over FC Utrecht at Philips Stadion on Saturday. And Dick Advocaat's men got down to the worst possible focus on Utrecht forward Jacob Mulenga adding the away side ahead after only 10 minutes. But, Dries Mertens drew PSV level with half an hour played and they didnat look back from there, adding on the pressure as they looked for the guide. The home side in the course of time hit the front through Georginio Wijnaldum after 65 minutes and were able to remain strong at the back to seal the vital gain.
