Ray Allen's Reception Begs the Question: What's in Store for Kevin Youkilis

Ray Allen said he didn't expected to get booed the whole time in his return to TD Garden on Sunday, January 27. Did anyone measure his nose after that comment because I am almost certain it grew a few inches? Ray Ray was in Boston long enough to know that an athlete becomes Benedict Arnold as soon as they deliberately leave, especially when they go to a hated team.

But no competition has been more drama-packed in the past century than the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry. Through the days of Wade Boggs, Luis Tiant, Carl Mays and the Bambino are over, recent players like Roger Clemens and Johnny Damon have added spark to the dull flame. Now, Kevin Youkilis, the once pitching target of Yankees' Joba Chamberlain, is now putting on a pinstriped uniform.

NESN took a poll to ask if fans will boo when Youkilis returns to Fenway and only 39.1 percent responded by saying yes.

It's hard to believe that Youkilis will be shunned at the historic ballpark. After all, it was Bobby Valentine that Red Sox nation had queries with after Youkilis changed his sox to white. Even though Bobby V claimed it was the third baseman's ego that spoiled the relationship, everyone was so sick of the drama that they viewed the GM as the boy who cried wolf.

Allen was essentially handing over his resume to the Miami Heat at the end of Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals. Youkilis was different.

Even after the staff practically kicked him to the curb, the third baseman failed to fight off tears as he gave his farewell to Fenway Park on Sunday, June 26. The crowd gave Youkilis a standing ovation as he tipped his cap and blew kisses to his beloved, loyal fans.

How could anyone be mad at him? Sure he was clearly struggling last season, but who on that roster wasn't in shambles after the collapse in 2011?

In the nine years Youkilis batted for the Red Sox, he accumulated 961 hits, 594 runs scored, 564 RBI, .487 SLG, .388 OBP, a Golden Glove and three All-Star appearances in a total of 953 games.

Youkilis faced what all athletes fear, getting injured as a veteran. The 33-year-old struggled at the plate after problems with his back and hamstrings.

Even in Chicago, it appeared that his third base position was becoming too much for him to handle. Youkilis posted a .236 batting average with the White Sox. While his OBP increased with Chicago, he still was not a good fit for the organization.

Youk's future with the Yankees is blurred. He only signed a one-year contract and the Yankee's original third baseman Alex Rodriquez's job is still in jeopardy. However, what is for certain is that Youkilis did win two World Series with the Red Sox. Let's give credit where credit is due.

And if it is any consolation, Youkilis is married to Tom Brady's sister. That has to count for something too, right?

Instead of "booooo," I am quite confident the Fenway crowd will give the former Red Sox his traditional "Yoooouuuukkkkk."

Philadelphia Phillies: What Does Chad Durbin's Signing Mean for Phils' Bullpen?

Doesn't this seem familiar?  For the second consecutive offseason, Philadelphia Phillies' general manager, Ruben Amaro, Jr., has added an outfielder and a reliever with just a few weeks to go until the start of spring training.

Kind of like the impulse buying that takes place in the checkout aisle with all those packs of gum staring back at you.

While the addition of Delmon Young on a one-year, $750,000 deal adds another outfielder to the mix, Young still does not give the Phils a definitive starter at either of the corner outfield spots.

The Phillies recently signed right-handed reliever Chad Durbin to a one-year, $1.1 million deal that includes an option for 2014.

What's more impressive, however, is how he held right-handed batters to a .206 average.  During the past three seasons combined, Durbin has racked up 171 strikeouts in 198 innings.

Durbin returns to the Phillies after posting a 3.69 ERA from 2008-2010 with the team, while logging 224.6 innings.Doug Pensinger/Getty Images

Matt Gelb on Philly.com recently wrote that the Phillies' Opening Day payroll could be at its lowest total since the 2010 season, although the article was published before Durbin's signing.  Gelb also wrote that the Phils were about $11 million under the luxury tax threshold.  With Durbin and his $1.1 million salary in the fold, the Phillies should still have their lowest payroll since 2010, and should have just under $10 million to go before hitting the tax threshold.

At that price and with plenty of payroll room for a smaller scale signing, such a deal shouldn't hurt the Phillies financially.  However, Durbin's signing does take away a spot from a reliever previously expected to have a good shot at being in the team's Opening Day bullpen.

Todd Zolecki on the Phillies' website provided a glimpse as to which bullpen spots are all but locked up and how many are up for grabs:

Durbin is expected to join a bullpen that includes closer Jonathan Papelbon, setup man Mike Adams and left-hander Antonio Bastardo.  His arrival means that there likely will be three jobs available in the bullpen, which should make for an interesting competition in Spring Training.

Those three remaining spots will likely be fought for by Phillippe Aumont, Justin De Fratus, Jake Diekman, Jeremy Horst, Michael Stutes and Raul Valdes.

Prior to Durbin's signing, the Phillies seemingly had room in their bullpen for both Stutes and Aumont, with two more left-handers joining Bastardo.  Now, however, at least one of these players will likely be left out when the team breaks camp for the start of the season.

Stutes may have an advantage if he can remain healthy throughout spring training, and if his performances resemble those of 2011.  Prior to pitching in just six games and having rotator cuff surgery last season, Stutes had a 3.63 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 62 innings in 2011.

Aumont looked promising at times last season, but Durbin's addition could push him out of the Opening Day bullpen.Hunter Martin/Getty Images

If he can remain healthy, Stutes may also benefit from Aumont missing time from camp to represent Canada in the World Basic Classic.  Despite showing great promise after being called-up last season, Aumont now appears to be on the outside looking in when it comes to the final bullpen spots.

Durbin's addition could have less of an impact on left-handed relievers fighting to win bullpen spots behind Bastardo.

Diekman had 35 strikeouts in 27.1 innings and only gave up one home run, but finished with a 3.95 ERA.  Horst struck out 40 batters in 31.1 innings and had an outstanding 1.15 ERA, but, after coming over last offseason in a trade for Wilson Valdez, he will also have to prove that he can match these numbers in consecutive seasons.  Valdes had 35 strikeouts in 31 innings and had a 2.90 ERA, but has only appeared in 40 major league games in the past two seasons combined.

Behind Bastardo, only two of these relievers will likely make the Opening Day roster, unless the Phillies decide to carry five right-handed relievers.

After filling their need for a right-handed eighth inning reliever by signing Mike Adams earlier in the offseason, the Phillies could have left the bullpen alone and used minor signings to bring more pitchers to camp.

With a veteran right-hander in the mix, adding an experienced left-handed reliever would have made sense, but adding another right-hander seems to be a case of Amaro trying to add value at a low cost.  In Zolecki's article, as previously mentioned, Amaro is also quoted as saying that Durbin's experience is something he brings to the team that the other, young relievers, cannot.

The Phillies used 19 different pitchers in relief roles last season, which means that the players serving in the seven bullpen spots can change multiple times this season.

But signing Durbin to a major league deal means that at least one young reliever has even more work cut out for him in order to start the season on the Opening Day roster.

What is making Juventus therefore unique in 2010?

In traveling past Glasgow Celtic and into the remaining eight of the seasonas Champions League, Juventus notched up an amazing sixth clean linen in a row in Europe. That doesnat have ease, and not the might of Barcelona or Real Madrid will look upon that without some degree of jealousy. The reigning Serie A winners are hot right now, and in perhaps not too a new ethos with Italian sides, it's all about defence. When they destroyed reigning European Champions Chelsea in Turin in the collection level of the UEFA Champions League, dumping the Blues out of the opposition one of the greatest games that this season has been played by the Old Lady was. To most, it was a clever moving midfield performance, but anything at Juve is created on protection. Not just that, you'll be hard pushed to discover a better team spirit then there is in Turin. That's right down to the coach Antonio Conte, who might just make Chelsea themselves sit up and take notice inside their search for a new boss. They're a remarkable model, with no single star shining all that brightly. Exactly how many other groups can you see both defending and attacking with eleven men? Thatas not to say that Juve get eleven guys behind the park and ball that common coach in front of the internet, itas not like that. It is the closing down of space that's pressing Juventus to beauty, an overwhelming work ethos fitted by the coach that's getting unparalleled and it might venture Juventus completely in this yearas Champions League. There's no-one who they will fear, lacking kept five European clean sheets in a line since conceding on Match Day Three. It took a magnificent free kick to defeat owner Gianluigi Buffon on that occasion. Even when their right back line has been lowered with the lack of the enormous presence of Giorgio Chiellini, Juventus have stayed on course. It is the tiny items that go quite a distance with Juventus, the excess runs devote by people all over the frequency, including the forwards, to close down opposition and media, the methodical Juventus machine work is made by which so well. Everyone has a role in the combined, itas not a game for people at the club. The trick is that therefore much work gets place in high up the message, that rarely do Juventus need certainly to defend strong. That reduces a tremendous number of stress by remaining lightweight. Look down their staff linen. There's no exceptional star just like a Lionel Messi in along side it to go and tear defenses apart with pace and energy, but frankly they donat need one. Juventus perform intelligent basketball. Having that single star energy, may upset the rhythm and the cornerstone where They have been built by Conte. Fabio Quagliarella and Sebastian Giovinco, along with support from Alessandro Matria and Mirko Vucinic have provided lots of goal scoring responsibility in 2010, and all cover well for each other, so there's no let up in the combined force of the machine working. It just comes on. Humbly, the Bianconerias Alessandro Matri mentioned that there is no star in their set up, most certainly not up front. There are a few famous names in the team, but none that be noticeable above the remainder on the pitch. Alongside the incredible goalkeeping qualities of Buffon between the twigs, the lynchpin of Juventus is still the vision of seasoned Andrea Pirlo at the back of the midfield. He finds the space with his detail passing and vision, he doesnat need to run quite around others. But he still places in the task and makes Juventus check. If you are betting on the UEFA Champions League then Juventus should not be dismissed. It has been a long wait since a major European trophy was lifted by Juventus. Their last European Cup/Champions League title was completely in the 1995/96 time. Which was the 2nd of these history and they're one of just three groups to possess made a sweep of UEFAas key club games, the UEFA Cup, the Cup Winnersa Cup and the European Cup. But that's all in the past and Juventus are a area pushing forward in the present, and developing something which might be perfect for the near future. Will the wait to complete their European Cup hat-trick arrive at fruition, in what would be described as a entirely deserving win, this year? They surely need to be gearing up for some thing big. Shop around the large five European leagues. Who else is defending a category title properly in 2010? Manchester City in the Premier League? No. Real Madrid in Manhunter Liga? No. Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga? No. Montpellier in the French Ligue 1? Certainly not. Juventus would be the only ones on course to do so after yet another impressive time on the domestic front. Juve went the complete Serie A year unbeaten last period, however they havenat been able to reside up to those high standards now. But still, no-one else has had the oppertunity to complement their energy these times. No-one has had the opportunity to keep pace with them. Again it is down to support. After fifteen home league matches in Turin, Juventus had admitted only seven targets. That is typically 0.53 goals per game. Gianluigi Buffon and the wall facing him have produced clean sheets in a staggering 67% of all house matches this season. Even The Special One, Jose Mourinho stated that it's Juventus who he fears. In a recent meeting, Mourinho called to Juventus as an aunsinkable ship.a In Mourinho-speak that's an enormous compliment to the Serie A side. Mourinho may be the master of structured, thorough basketball therefore for him to hand out terms of love is really a big issue, something must be sat up and paid interest also. Obviously Juventus arenat without their critics. Several that view live basketball find them boring and uninspiring. Lacking any true striking quality up front and taking advantage of many questionable umpire choices. Within the last 32 of the Champions League, they came under heavy fire and criticism from Glasgow Celtic. The Scottish champions accused the Italians of being too physical, of having away with too many fouls while defending in the field. The physical intimidation was there, moving, shoving, top taking, preventing, bear-hugs, you bet, it was all there. Thatas the Italian way. But again it was a combined work, because all defenders were doing it, and everyone is got by the referee canat at once. Whenever a group is doing well, some one will always decide to try and cast aspersions. It is how that's answered that makes a group. These ambitions indicate that a club are doing something very right. So the criticism has all been there, it has all been shot at them. However it should all be water of a ducks back since the Bianconeri are doing something right, something that many of groups should be jealous of. They fully deserve any recognition that they get, it will certainly have been worked hard for. This visitor post is written by Karl MacDonald and he writes about baseball chances.

Swansea City versus. Tottenham Hotspur: 6 Factors We Learned in Initial Category... - Bleacher Report

After two consecutive losses in the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur ended their recent decay with a 2-1 win absent at Swansea City. Goals from Jan Vertonghen and Gareth Bale demonstrated enough as Tottenham kept on after Michu had reduced the debt for the Welsh membership. Results elsewhere designed Spurs moved back to third invest the dining table. With seven games left for both Swansea and Tottenham, both teams experience differing but probably very interesting conclusions to their respective campaigns. Read on for a couple thoughts on Saturday's motion at the Liberty Stadium. Spurs Are Better Off Maintaining Things Versatile Christopher Lee/Getty Images Gareth Bale's recent arrangement as a focused opponent has been anything of a double-edged sword. The part has meant him viewing more action (or at least a different kind) than he may possibly enjoying left wing, but Tottenham have also sometimes missed the presence he provides and the total amount he gives out wide. Bale made his most critical impact against Swansea centrally, twice mixing wonderfully with Vertonghen to set up and then report in two great goals. Throughout the 2nd half it become clear the Welshman's effort was shrinking, though. Credit to Villas-Boasa'he changed it up. Lewis Holtby came on to occupy Swansea's more central participants and Bale moved to the flank, locating a little more room to operate. When the latter came in off that part to make a important shot-stopping block to reject Nathan Dyer it specially paid off late in the game. Villas-Boas (like many instructors) sometimes comes to the trap of staying with an idea, even when the overall game might be turning against his group, expecting things turnaround. Sometimes he'd be better served remembering he comes with the equipment to be variable in his ways. When circumstances dictate an alternative method spurs have choices to change things up. The usefulness of players like Bale and Holtby offers that luxury to Villas-Boas. With activities against FC Basel and Everton coming up next week, Villas-Boas has to be sensible in how he uses his group. Not overworking it while still fielding the strongest possible sidea'a little freedom won't go amiss. Being Aggressive Works for Villas-Boas Christopher Lee/Getty Photographs On an identical note to the last page, the Swansea sport confirmed the merits of a more proactive in-game approach from Villas-Boas. The recent decline to Liverpool was particularly frustrating as had Tottenham changed issues up earlier in the day, they may have ended the Reds' gathering, finally expensive, momentuma'though there was little the Spurs boss might have done about the mistakes that generated the opposition's goals. There is, of course, no guarantee substitutions will continue to work. Against Inter Milan, Villas-Boas was faster with his changes and his staff arguably played worse. Broadly speaking, nevertheless, being hands-on can have an optimistic result. Swansea could have scored after Jermain Defoe exchanged Emmanuel Adebayor, but that has been hardly the problem of the striker. Defoe was far livelier than his other forward, and Spurs would probably have fared worse without him giving them a more dynamic store upfront. Similarly, Holtby's introduction for Gylfi Sigurdsson gave the group additional determination in midfield, with the German helping upset Swansea's stream. It's ultimately right down to the participants, but sometimes administrators are better served by actually managing and demonstrating initiative. Swansea Still Need a "Plan B" to Displace Danny Graham Danny Graham (left ).Stu Forster/Getty Pictures Michu was once again a dangerous and lively reputation leading the line for Swansea. Tottenham usually negated his risk on the ground, however the Spaniard caused them many issues aerially while they granted him an excessive amount of space. It charge Spurs a goal when, in an otherwise strong performance, Michael Dawson offered Swansea's topscorer an ill-advised garden to have the run and jump on him. It took Michu's tally for the season to 20 in every contests. Swansea haven't been lacking for targets elsewhere. But, because Danny Graham joined Sunderland in January, they have been looking for a "plan B" in the years ahead. Jordan Laudrup's staff is barely one-dimensional, and famous brands Jonathan de Guzman and Nathan Dyer (amongst others) make genuine efforts in the years ahead. Graham's departure has left them without a legitimate penalty-box existence, just one who will work in conjunction with Michu or in place of hima'and in both cases, giving something just a little different. Though not really a significant issue for now, it is a place Laudrup must look to address in the summer. If Michu was to suffer more than short term damage, the Swans might find themselves in a spot of trouble. Earning the League Cup Is as Much as a Blessing a Curse Jordan Regan/Getty Photographs Swansea lovers will still be basking in the beauty of the club's first winning of a significant prize last month. The 5-0 Capital One Cup final knocking of Bradford City at Wembley was a splendid day for a team and team that has come to date, particularly during the last decade. Since that day, it's difficult to get away from the realization that Swansea are enduring a hangover from the celebrations. Three failures within their four matches since then speaks of a team that's taken its eyes off the ball fairly. In theory, winning a prize with a good 90 days of a plan left to play appears to be like the perfect means of providing an increase to a team for the run-in. The evidence would suggest normally, at least in the case of teams that a pot achievement isn't the norm. Last year, Liverpool won just four of the last 13 league activities following their securing of the prize (though they did continue a work to the FA Cup final). The year prior to that, Birmingham City were relegated after their Wembley gain. Back 2008, Spurs would register just three wins in 12 games following a fascinating win in the ultimate over rivals Chelsea. The only real exception within the last half-a-decade has been Manchester United. Sir Alex Ferguson's side finished the summer season clearly after their League Cup achievement last year and 2010. The Red Devils won the league title in the former and only lost to eventual champions Chelsea in the latter. This Sport Was a Valubale Exercise for Tottenham Jose Mario Rocha exchanges phrases with the Swansea staff.Christopher Lee/Getty Pictures It'd not have felt like it for them with no three factors, but for Tottenham this sport was a valuable exercise before their future league accessories. Everton, Chelsea and Manchester City all cause different threats from what Spurs came up against in Wales. But Swansea are a sufficiently good footballing part that they actually served as good preparation for the problems that is going to be posed in the months ahead. Saturday's game was an important one for the North Londoners, but as an top-four place gets deeper, the ante will probably get upped substantially. In this regard, it may prove fortunate that Spurs' players and coaches alike let loose with their frustrations in an anxious and scrappy 2nd half. Coming facing their opponents for Champions League certification, the final thing they'll wish to accomplish is lose their great (the exact same goes for their Europa League quarterfinal too) in what will be very compelled functions. Exercise coach Jose Mario Rocha was specially incensed after an incident on the sidelines with the Swansea equivalents. For him and, especially, his club-mates to own gotten a few of this tension out of their system now, may possibly pay off down the road. Supporters Are Developing Too Delicate to Tackling Christopher Lee/Getty Photographs A more general statement it could be, but Saturday's conference between Swansea and Tottenham was an example of one of English football's developing problems. The escalation in player theatrics has led to more basketball fans responding with an almost-equally over-the-top incredulity just about any time one of their participants has a sliding handle made to them (or even a more overtly physical-looking little bit of contact). Swansea and Tottenham were commendably permitted to get caught in by umpire Anthony Taylor. He blew his whistle, when the tackles got a little too unpleasant later on in the game, but prior to then the game flow is let by him well. Except this indicates, in the view of the Swansea supporters. So frequently when certainly one of their people was satisfied with a sliding handle, they would howl with discontent at the perceived injustice. Michu was notably associated with many of these incidents, although Liberty Stadium audience over looked the very fact these were often clear simulations on his part. Tottenham fans can be in the same way bad. The White Hart Lane faithful have now been known as much to voice their disapproval at similarly small or imaginary issues on the star-man Bale. Fans, people, referees, editors, coachesa'all alike would profit from toughening up and excepting it is a contact sport, and tackling is element of that. Borussia Dortmund 5-1 Freiburg - Goal.com

The visitors started impressively and took a deserved cause through Jonathan Schmid, but goals from Robert Lewandowski either side of a Nuri Sahin attack guaranteed BVB went into the break in-front. With before Leonardo Bittencourt finished the score the Freiburg resistance broken, Sahin bagged a second to himself. Freiburg were keen to impose themselves from the beginning and their strong demanding helped them forge the game's opening possibility. With six minutes on the time Felipe Santana did not drive up with the protection and Marco Terrazzino ran through on purpose. The Brazilian managed to recover and drive the striker to cut back inside and sq for Kruse, who then shot on the bar. BVB appeared totally disjointed and exhibited a lack of fluency over the message. But credit was deserved by the visitors for maintaining their positive begin to the game and in the moment their reward was got by them. Julian Schuster swung in a strong corner from the proper that has been organized at the post by Max Kruse. And with Dormund's defence all at sea he kept the ball up before standing it up for Schmid to include an easy finish. Freiburg continued to press Jurgen Klopp's men high up the field, but a quantity of action ahead of the break found the hosts complete an amazing transformation with three goals in five minutes. Firstly, Lewandowski evaded his gun inside the place and headed the ball past Baumann from Sahin's supply in the 41st moment. 3 minutes later, some excellent dribbling from Jakub 'Kuba' Blaszczykowski unlocked the Freiburg support and Sahin powered the ball in to the far corner after his team-mate rolled it throughout the box. Then, in the final moment of the first half, Marco Reus noticed his close-range shot stored by Baumann, but Christian Gunter's clearance fell to Lewandowski within the place. He took one touch to put the ball on his left before rifling an endeavor into the bottom corner. The objectives almost continued at the same pace as Gundogan threaded Reus through on purpose within two minutes of the restart, only for Baumann to be add up to the Germany international's energy. Dortmund effort to pick the visiting defense apart on the counterattack and were a lot more than content to coast through the next half, yet the final cross often appeared to be lacking. Reus found a few options narrowly slip through his fingers, before Mario Gotze failed to transform facing an open goal after a move from Sahin had set Kuba free down the proper. Nevertheless the next goal did come, and yet again it was Sahin on the scoresheet. Santana's long ball initiated the threat and the midfielder was to a ball in the place to poke a go over the top of Baumann. The rout was then finished in the 78th second, as where Bittencourt, who'd just been on the subject for just two minutes, added the last effect Lewandowski glided past Fallou Diagne and sent the ball across the face of the purpose. Javi Martinez: I never had any doubts over Bayern Munich transfer ...

The former Athletic Bilbao midfielder revealed he had always dreamt of a switch abroad and is more than content with his choice of destination

The Spain international had reportedly also caught the attention of Barcelona and Real Madrid, but he did not need to think twice when Bayern came calling as he had always dreamt of moving abroad.

"I never thought twice when I heard Bayern wanted me. I already knew as a child that I wanted to get to learn new countries and cultures. At the age of 24 the time was right," Javi Martinez told TZ.

"I had had a good season with Athletic Bilbao. When I found out about Bayern's interest, I didn't need long to make a decision. You don't get opportunities like this twice, so I jumped at it.

"One of the guys I used to play against when I was a kid had told me that I would play for Bayern one day, and he turned out to be right. I gave him a call when the transfer was a done deal, but he couldn't remember it."

The holding midfielder then revealed that he dreamed of becoming a goalkeeper in his younger years, but his brother convinced him he would be better off in midfield.

"I always wanted to be a goalkeeper. My brother then placed a bet with me, though. He would take 10 penalties and I could continue as a shot stopper if I saved one. Needless to say, he didn't miss a single one."

Bayern Munich versus. HSV: Final report 9-2, Bayern do Bayerny things...

Starters were rested four by bayern Munich because of their home game against Hamburg. Goals were scored five billion by them anyway. Bayern Munich have been nigh-on unstoppable at home this year, but before the game it did not appear impossible that Hamburg could have made things interesting at the Allianz. After all, Jupp Heyneckes rested David Alaba, Mario Mandzukic, Franck Ribery and Thomas Mueller in preparation for the Champions League battle against Juventus in a few days. Hamburg certainly are a team and if given the possibility can probably do some harm. Yes, that didn't go therefore well... 1-0, Xhedran Shaqiri (5' )2-0, Bastian Schweinsteiger (19' )3-0, Claudio Pizarro (30' )4-0, Arjen Robben (33' )5-0, Claudio Pizarro (45' )6-0, Claudio Pizarro (53' )7-0, Arjen Robben (54' )8-0, Claudio Pizarro (68' )8-1, Jeffrey Bruma (75' )9-1, Franck Ribery (76' )9-2, Heiko Westermann (86 ') Because this really is all a little bit foolish, I obtain the feeling that Bayern Munich might consider turning the hard sliders up a bit. They're demolishing all who come before them without even looking like they're trying. Poor Rene Adler. Poor HSV support. Bad Bundesliga. Poor Juventus, you have to assume. Mexican Football Supporters Put Beers at American... - The Big Lead

The United States Menas National Team went in to Azteca yesterday evening and escaped with a hard-fought and privileged 0-0 draw. Since we share a line, the trip was also made by some American soccer fans to Mexico City for the overall game. In these videos beers can be seen by you placed from Mexican supporters towards the visiting USMNT followers. In typical American style, the thrown beers were met with defiant aU-S-Aa chants. Update: At least one lover was hit and cut with something thrown at fans. [Instagram via @chr31ter] High off the sugar rush that is a tie in soccer, American fans chanted, aThis is our house,a in both American and Mexican English and Spanish as they left the arena. The action continued entirely outside the stadium as the Americans further varied their chants with aEstamos Unidosa and a, aYouare not going to Brazil.a I canat help but believe the chanting and alcohol tossing could have had an alternative conclusion if the American supporters weren't surrounded by walls of Mexican police. Old Trafford side willing to ring the changes as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to accumulate funds to make use of to recapture new summer additions. Register to Sunderland vs Manchester United Man United are hoping to garner a windfall of as much as A60m from the sale of five first crew squad members as Sir Alex Ferguson appears to plough money in from sales to simply help fund the cost of new improvements come july 1st. Goal.com feels that the future price of signing Robin Van Persie last summer and achieving his A250k a week requirements in conjunction with the A17m January signing of Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha has efficiently destroyed Sir Alex Fergusonas summer transfer budget. It's led Ferguson to consider the income of five squad players who he hopes will rake in significant transfer resources at the end of the existing strategy. Brazilian midfielder Anderson will be manufactured on sale after putting in another uninspired season and you can find apparently a host of potential offers from South American sides involved in the 24 year old, who will feel that a move away from Old Trafford is essential to help re-ignite a lifetime career that's in danger of stagnating. Ferguson may however battle to recoup anywhere close to the A24m he used in the former Hamilton Academical Porto person back in 2007. Ecuadorian international Luis Antonio Valencia has fought for form this term, and hasnat even managed a Premier League purpose, and with the introduction of Wilfried Zaha and other potential wide targeting possibilities, it appears that the wide-man might be on his way, as long as a quote worth Fergusonas attention is forthcoming. Javier Hernandez will be willing to think about alternatives to the Man United counter and Ferguson will let the Mexican to leave for the right value. The 24 year old has continued to score goals routinely, 16 in every contests this expression, but is still way down the impressive pecking purchase, this source claims that the natural finisher might be viewed by Atletico Madrid being an ideal replacement for Radamel Falcao if indeed the Colombian is to leave the Vicente Calderon. Guy United will appear to offload Nani this summertime, this after the Portuguese opponent managed to push his long ago in to Fergusonas strategies after an extended show of the first group picture. The 26 year old showed signs of a return to form with remarkable features against Reading and QPR in February however came perhaps the most infamous event of his Man United job when he was sent down, perhaps roughly, against Real Madrid in an essential Champions League contest. A shift from Old Trafford come early july seems likely. The ultimate person in this five man leave destined collection could very well be the least surprising. Ferguson is willing to offload Danish global Anders Lindegaard with the Scot opting for youngster David p Gea as his normal first decision beginner. The Man United manager might feel itas time to trust to small Englishman Ben Amos as his desire have been stated by a back-up De Gea Lindegaard to follow first staff baseball that he doesnat seem prone to secure at the Premier League table covers. The 28 year oldas last Premier League appearance came in a narrow 4-3 win absent at Reading, it might end up being the last taste of top tier action with Man United.

Updated: 10:23pm UK, Saturday 23 March 2013 Boris Berezovsky was once certainly one of Russia's most powerful kingmakers, a part of the important number of Russian tycoons called the "oligarchs." Born in Moscow in 1946, the daughter of a engineer, he received a in applied arithmetic, before becoming one of lots of Russian entrepreneurs who took advantage of Perestroika. His money was made by him founding the car company LogoVAZ in 1989, trying to sell local Russian cars and adding Mercedes. As his wealth grew therefore too did his sphere of influence and in 1993 he entered the Kremlin's inner circle, eventually making the nickname Rasputin, after the mystic agent to the Romanovs. By the mid-1990s Mr Berezovsky possessed a stake in the oil business Sibneft and had many share in Russia's major tv station, ORT. In 1997 Forbes estimated his wealth was $3bn. At Davos in 1996 forces were joined by him with other businessmen who had grown in the ruins of the Soviet Union and a pact was formed by them, known as the "Davos Pact" in which they consented to bank spin Boris Yeltsin for his second presidential run. Along with members of Mr Yeltsin's family, like his daughter Tatyana Yumasheva, and like-minded politicians, like Anatoly Chubais, Yegor Gaidar and Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov, they properly went Russia throughout Mr Yetsinas 2nd term as his health faltered. It is said that it was Mr Berezovsky who hand-picked the ex-KGB head, Vladimir Putin, when it was clear a successor was needed. He might have made him king but Mr Putin quickly made it clear that he wasn't to be anyoneas puppet and shortly after he became President the 2 men fell out. Mr Berezovsky resigned from the Duma and set himself up in opposition then left the nation on business. He never returned. In November 2000, while traveling, he was summoned for economic crimes but he did not react and put up home in London. He was granted asylum in britain in 2003. Mr Berezovsky vowed that he would carry Mr Putin down, but following a number of assassination attempts, he also lived in fear for his life. According to Alexander Litvinenko, the former Russian FSB agent who was assassinated in London in 2006, a Russian agent was preparing a hit on Mr Berezovsky in September 2003. Mr Litvinenko had also claimed in 1998 when he was an FSB agent that he himself had been ordered to destroy Mr Berezovsky. In 2007, Scotland Yard said it'd foiled a plot to assassinate Mr Berezovsky in the united kingdom. The so-called hitman, a national, was arrested in London and deported to Russia. Mr Berezovsky also survived an attempt in Russia in 1994 when a vehicle bomb exploded, wounding him and decapitating his driver. And as Mr Berezovskyas power faded in his self-imposed exile, so did his success. In line with the Sunday Times Rich List by 2011, his net worth was just about $900m (A591m). Mr Berezovskyas spot in Sibneft in the course of time resulted in a court battle with Chelsea FC operator Roman Abramovich, which will be estimated to possess cost him A100m, and speculation about his financial wellbeing. In 2012, he lost the High Court case where he charged his fellow oligarch of breach of trust, breach of contract and said Mr Abramovich "intimidated" him into offering shares in Sibneft for a $1.3bn" (A800m) - "a portion of their true worth." In July 2011 his ex-wife Galina Beshanrova, 53, won the largest divorce settlement in history, considered worth hundreds of thousands of pounds. Mr Berezovsky ran up further appropriate costs greater than A250,000 later in 2012 preventing a case against his former lover, Elena Gorbunova. Ms Gorbunova, who'd two children with Mr Berezovsky, complained that she'd not been given thousands assured by him. On Wednesday, Mr Berezovsky offered Red Lenin, an Andy Warhol display produce, for A133,875 at Christie's auction house, prompting more speculation about his financial situation. Demoralised by the Abramovich situation, the Kremlin claims that Mr Berezovsky, the kingmaker, was a broken man in the times before he died. He had written, Mr Putinas spokesman said, to beg forgiveness and to eventually return to Russia. He never did.

The Chelsea 2D weblog - Latest Chelsea Soccer Team News: Josh...

His Chelsea debut was made by mceachran in the Champions League on 15th September 2010 against MSK Zilina when he got off the table. The 2010-11 season turned out to be always a good one for young Josh as he made a complete of 17 appearances for Chelsea in every tournaments. The following season, under new boss Andre Villas-Boas, first-team action was limited. This generated the kid doing financing move to Swansea City, although game-time was at reduced at the Welsh club; he only made 5 shows for the Swans. McEachran was part of Chelseaas 2012-13 pre-season tour. In the first match against the Seattle Sounders, McEachran made a move that split up the Soundersa protection and discovered Romelu Lukaku who smoothly placed the ball beyond the owner. It absolutely was a genuine positive time for the young midfielder. Nevertheless, it was his mistake that resulted in the Sounders finding an equalizer; a poor back-pass was pounced on. The youngster was clearly shaken by the mistake. While McEachranas quality was never in doubt, it was apparent to one and all that he needed frequent game time in order to improve. It was also obvious he would never get standard game time at Chelsea. So when a loan move to Middlesbrough was finalised before the 2012-13 season started, it was seen as the correct move for the youngster. To date, the mortgage transfer appears to be working well. He's 3 helps for Boro in 31 hearings, and as the earnings seem bad, stats donat tell the whole story. Especially for a person like McEachran. Joshas great place is that of a deep-lying playmaker, somebody who sits deep in midfield and determines and controls the game the pace of which the group plays. He's good composure and exemplary vision on the ball. He also offers the ability to open defences with an excellent pass. Chelseaas present 4-2-3-1 development would enhance the best in the midfielder and may certainly suit his talents well. However, it's unclear if Chelsea may decide to retain his services or send him from yet another loan spell to get more knowledge and game time. One can't doubt Joshas skill and it he has truly increased throughout his mortgage spell. But, there is one thing Josh must work on before he returns to Chelsea to fight it out so that you can turn into a first-team regular: work on his shape. Right now Josh is a tad bit slim and might find himself getting bullied around by defenders in the Premier League. If Chelsea are able to incorporate him to the first-team, it will workout well for both the ball player and the club. Compiled By Shayne Dias

NUFC set to declare a gain - but sticking with same move method - ChronicleLive

Newcastle United are set to announce a gain this week once they reveal their numbers for the fiscal year a' but this will not cause a change of transport policy Robert Ashley and Derek Llambias Newcastle United are set to announce a profit this week if they expose their figures for the financial year a' but this won't result in a change of exchange policy. The Magpies produced a statement back 2010 which they could no further be pursuing the services of atrophy playersa. But whilst the blueprint was published almost 36 months ago, United will continue steadily to plough on with an identical economic technique that has led them back into the black. Last year Newcastle announced an loss of A3.9m for the financial year and after getting much more self-sufficient in the last 12 months and losing big earners like former Manchester United star Alan Smith and Spanish flop Xisco recently their finances are in the best model of the Mike Ashley era. The Magpies were associated with England defense Joleon Lescott over the week-end but these stories have already been laughed off by the United structure with the times of handing out big money and long-term offers history at St Jamesa Park. Lescottas earnings of A80,000 per week are nowhere near Unitedas present top earners and the Chronicle realizes that a host of more fresh-faced and younger people who are eager for success are already being arranged for the summer. Ashley is keen to strengthen the next chain and growth swimming at United in order to avoid a repeat of the chronic injury crisis that left Alan Pardewas team woefully short of cover during this winteras therapy area stress. United will soon be willing to confirm their Premier League position in the next several games with a blockbusting A70m jackpot in store for top-flight sides next period. Concluding in the topA 10 this term and enhancing their present 13th position standing could see Newcastle bank an additionalA A3m. Brain games: Manchester City are absent United's winning attitude, admits... - Mirror.co.uk

Blues stand-in chief shows exactly about his connection with Mancini and why Balotelli's leave was certain Getty Photographs Pablo Zabaleta says Manchester City should improve their unity and thinking if they are to enjoy continual success. Zabaleta conceded the title after acknowledging a 15-point space with eight games to get was a lot to make up on the Red Devils. Roberto Mancini's participants have struggled with the responsibility of being champions this season and were also found wanting in Europe. The Blues failed to allow it to be out from the Champions League collection phase and Zabaleta accepted in 2010 is a wake-up call for them. "We have to increase as a group and in terms of mentality," said Zabaleta. "People usually feel that it's enough to possess champions to win. "But if the large participants do not form a combined front, you do not go anywhere. We have to learn to be more reliable. United have performed better but a 15-point space is a lot of. "The big difference is that they have gained even when they've performed badly, while we've managed to drop even when we did not deserve to. "United have created a winning mentality during the last 20 years while City are in the start of their project." Father figure: Zabaleta can communicate with Mancini about anything Scott Heavey With Vincent Kompany injured, Zabaleta has captained City for yesteryear 8 weeks and arguably been their finest player in 2010. Zabaleta said this season was his best for City and praised the trust and relationship he's with Mancini for offering the best in him. "I really think so [this is my best season]," said Zabaleta. "I am using frequency in terms ofperformances and shows. "In some ways Maicon's exercise dilemmas have served [me] as continuity is basic for a footballer. "My relationship with Mancini is great. I have known him for 36 months and realized that you could speak not just about baseball with him, but in addition discuss issues about life." Zabaleta claimed Mario Balotelli's January leave to AC Milan was expected and claimed the striker needed the transfer for the benefit of his profession. Comfort have been found by homesick: Balotelli from his go back to Italy Marco Luzzani "I genuinely believe that his farewell was inevitable," Zabaleta told Gazzetta dello Sport. "A difficult situation is made. "Mario is a good footballer who has to learn to control his life better off the pitch. "He must be more disciplined and calm. Going back to Italy and being near to his family again is supporting him." Zabaleta recalled his own tough begin in life and said the tragedy of losing his mother in childhood had made him a stronger character. "I already made the jump from Argentina to Spain and home was left by me at 12 to go and enjoy football," said Zabaleta. My mother was lost by "i when I was a young child and so I quickly learned how to cope on my own. I did not have any problems developing here."

2013 NFL Fake Draft: Current Predictions for Each First-Round Group

It's 2013 NFL mock draft season, which means it's time to update the current projections for each first-round team. What player will your team pick? Which players will fall or get picked earlier than expected?

With no clear franchise quarterback on the board, as well as the acquisition of Alex Smith, the Chiefs turn to the best player available, which is Luke Joeckel. The offensive tackle will play a year on the right side before transitioning to the blind side for the next 10 years.

The Jaguars need more of a pass rush, and Dion Jordan has the most pure pass-rush skills in this draft class. He can play multiple positions and should help the Jags get after the quarterback more.

The Raiders really need a quarterback to build around, and Smith is the best in this class. He's not perfect, but he can apprentice behind Carson Palmer before taking over and leading the Raiders for years to come.

The Eagles need offensive line help, and some think that Eric Fisher may be the best offensive tackle in this class. He can start right away and instantly improve the Eagles' line.

Detroit is in desperate need of cornerbacks. Milliner is the best in this class. He has a great combination of size and speed and should help to prevent the Lions from having the ball thrown all over the field against them.

Shariff Floyd has the makings of a dominant interior lineman, Combining him with Jabaal Sheard and newly-signed Paul Kruger, the Browns could turn a pass rush that was weak last year into a strength.

The Cardinals have needed line help for years now, and Johnson possesses the most upside of any offensive tackle in this draft class. He's a bit rough around the edges, but in a few years time, this pick could pay huge dividends for the Cards.

The Bills are in desperate need of a franchise quarterback. While Nassib is not a sure-fire stud, he was solid for Syracuse last season and was a main reason that Doug Marrone got the Bills job in the first place. Nassib is pro-ready, and while he won't be flashy, he'll provide steady quarterback play for a franchise that needs it.

The Jets need a pass rush and Barkevious Mingo can provide it. He can play multiple positions and replace Calvin Pace's lost production.

Guards usually don't go this high, but this is a perfect match of need and talent. By most accounts, Warmack is one of the best guard prospects in recent years. He would help shore up an offensive line that has struggled to create holes for Chris Johnson.

Jarvis Jones falls this far because of injury concerns, but he may have the most pure talent in this draft. Jones would fit nicely with last year's pick, Melvin Ingram, to form a dynamic pass-rush duo.

The Dolphins lost Sean Smith to the Chiefs and they need a replacement. Xavier Rhodes has great size and could probably play safety as well.

Another team that needs cornerback helps, Trufant could be a nice pickup for the Bucs. He was excellent at the Senior Bowl and will help the Bucs' pass defense tremendously.

Star Lotuelelei falls due to concerns about a heart issue. On talent alone, Lotulelei has Warren Sapp-type potential. He will be a penetrating three-technique who will fit great along the defensive line with Charles Johnson and Greg Hardy.

Ezekiel Ansah is raw, but he could play multiple positions in the Saints' new 3-4 defense. Ansah has track-star speed, and he dominated in the Senior Bowl.

The Rams need a new receiver now that Danny Amendola is in New England. Austin has electric speed and can change games with a single touch. He'll add a dynamic element to the Rams offense.

Mike Wallace is now in Miami, so the Steelers will take Cordarrelle Patterson to replace him. Patterson is raw, but he has great size and speed and is a playmaker with the ball in his hands.

Dallas is in desperate need of a safety, and Vacarro is the consensus best safety in this draft. He can start right away and turn a weakness into a strength.

The Giants could use an upgrade in their pass rush, and Sheldon Richardson is a top pass-rusher from the interior. He would replace the recently cut Chris Canty and add a boost to the defensive line.

Brian Urlacher is poised to find a new team this offseason, so the Bears need a replacement. Te'o was exposed in the national championship game as a step slow, but he's a fine run defender and can hang with most tight ends in the open field.

Andre Smith may depart via free agency, so the Bengals will take another right tackle from Alabama. Fluker is as solid as they come and would start right away.

Alec Ogeltree has off-the-field concerns, but he is a dynamic athlete. He would add speed and explosiveness to a decent Rams defense.

While the Vikings did acquire Greg Jennings, they need to replace Percy Harvin's big-play ability. Hunter can do just that. He has great size and speed would help to take the load off of Adrian Peterson.

Bjoern Werner certainly isn't flashy, but he's a solid, dependable pass-rusher. The Colts could use more of that, and Werner could start right away.

Kevin Williams isn't getting any younger, so the Vikings prepare for the future for another Williams. Jesse Williams is a load to handle for offensive guards and should help take some pressure off of Jared Allen.

Greg Jennings is in Minnesota, so the Packers turn to Keenan Allen to replace him. Allen is not flashy, but he's a dependable possession receiver who can move the chains.

The Texans have long needed a wide receiver alongside Andre Johnson. Hopkins has great size, and though he's not a burner, he can certainly move the chains and make catches in the red zone.

With all the uncertainty surrounding the Elvis Dumervil situation, the Broncos could use another pass-rusher. Carradine is coming off an injury, but he showed explosive pass-rush ability when healthy.

Sylvester Williams could serve as a nice complement to Vince Wilfork. Williams can play all over the line and would help keep Wilfork fresh down the stretch.

The Falcons could use another pass-rusher and Datone Jones is one of the better ones. Jones can make an instant impact in the league and provide a solid pass rush across Kroy Biermann.

The 49ers need to prepare for life after Justin Smith. Hankins is the right choice. He can play all along the line and offer valuable depth.

Ed Reed is no longer on the team, nor is Bernard Pollard, so the Ravens need a safety. Elam is a bit undersized, but he has playmaking ability and is a sure tackler.

How a Wilfried Bony to Newcastle United story began - Metro (web log)

Wilfried 'Dad Cool' Bony. It all started in certainly one of my own personal stories Iam scared. As a keen Newcastle United fan, as well as a keen fan of Dutch soccer, I wrote a story on January 15th on the way the membership really should be taking a look at a striker of tremendous ability who has been taking the Dutch Eredivisie by storm along with his extremely prolific score for Vitesse Arnhem (32 objectives in 30 games up to now this year). Obviously, it is possible to guess from the name with this item that the gamer was Wilfried Bony. I had already published a few similar stories already on players such as Papiss Cisse, Jan Vertonghen and Adam Maher. However, they'd been already joined, although tenuously, with Newcastle by other sources for starters reason or another. On the other hand, there had been no link whatsoever between Bony and Newcastle until that time, and I was only sharing my knowledge and passion for the gamer with my other fans who may not have seen a great deal of him, as well as recommending that he should be closed forthwith by United. Firstly, the name began being bandied around one or two other Newcastle forums after that part was published. Things went more conventional however when it was eventually acquired by the Telegraph around ten days later. The writer of that bit stitched a fairly elaborate story about how precisely Bony was available at the right price and that Newcastle may curently have tabled a bet of around A12 million pounds for him in the a week ago of the January move screen. Surprisingly, the Telegraph history was deleted time after publication, which is a shame as I canat quite remember whether the byline came from their erstwhile North East sports correspondent, Luke awhoas talkinga Edwards, who many of you Geordies out there may know from his previous job at the Journal. From then on, needless to say, it was avidly taken on by nearly all of the other important media sources to the place where Derek Llambias individually pooh-poohed the story in the aforementioned Journal, saying amazement were never involved in him.a ItA was preceded by a strange area in exactly the same story which read: aIt is comprehended that Newcastle observed the Vitesse Arnheim forward, who obtained twice at the weekend, over the place of several months but decided that he could have a problem with the physicality of the Premier League. aThey were angered by the reports that suggested they were in talks for him and Llambias confirmed to the Journal: aWe were never interested in him.a Whoever wrote this must have been taking a look at an alternative player as the lad is as a bull as strong (if not stronger!) andA could deliver defenders traveling throughout the area like skittles in the field. To offer a vintage Keeganism: aThat is his power, his strength.a Please donat misunderstand me, this is simply not a bit to blow the trumpet of my own personal website or whatever. Quite the opposite really, as it is intended by me as an illustration of how specious and poorly sourced so a number of these media transfer rumours actually are as. In a feeling, we're the culprit though for giving them the support they donat deserve. Oh! And Newcastle United should really sign the child. Seriously, they should. Mark my words, heas just like a African Shearer, with dislikes. I donat say that lightly either. Metro Blogs is really a place for views. These opinions belong to the writer and are not necessarily shared by Metro.

Manchester United must keep Javier Hernandez - GiveMeFootball.com

When Manchester United announced that they had signed Javier Hernandez from Chivas Guadalajara in April 2010, it raised many eyebrows as he was virtually an unknown player to the football world.

The deal was announced after United were ousted from the Champions League by Bayern Munich and it was of the opinion that the Red Devils would sign a top star to take them to the next level to challenge for the biggest prize in European football.

It was reported that Hernandez was a promising young striker and his record in Mexico was impressive but there was a huge question if he could do the same in the Premier League week-in week-out. The questions were answered fairly quickly as "Chicharito" - meaning The Little Pea - would go on to perform well for his country in the 2010 World Cup, scoring two brilliantly taken goals as well as being recorded as the fastest player at the tournament.

Hernandez made his first appearance for Manchester United in Houston against MLS All-Stars in a pre-season encounter in front a full house. He was a second-half substitute coming on for Nani and made an immediate impact on the game. He scored a well-taken goal, running off the shoulder of the last defender before latching onto a lobbed bass over the top from Darren Fletcher. It was a wonderful goal as he had to set himself to get into the position to lob the goalkeeper and he did that expertly to mark his first appearance for his new club with a goal.

That goal marked the type of striker Chicharito is, as he always seem to be on the shoulder of the last defender and looking to run in behind the defensive line, stretching the defence and the team in general. Hernandez also went on to score in a match in Mexico where Chivas Guadalajara hosted Manchester United to mark the opening of their new stadium, as that was part of the agreement in the deal when he signed for United.

Hernandez was working hard in training and his team-mates immediately realised that he was a born goalscorer. According to Sir Alex Ferguson, Hernandez was expected to do great things as he had shown signs of being a good striker. "When Javier scored his first goal in Houston, Paul told me after the game that he(Hernandez) would get 25 goals this season," Ferguson said. "Paul is a quiet lad and doesn't say a lot, but he is a fantastic judge."

This shows the level of effort being shown by Hernandez. He had definitely shown that he is very talented and has lots of potential to become a top striker.

The Mexico striker made his official Manchester United debut in the Community Shield against Chelsea. He was a substitute coming on at the start of the second half and scored his first official goal for the club. He darted into the penalty area to pounce on a cross from Antonio Valencia, appeared to kick the ball onto his face and then the ball into went into the back of the net.

It wasn't the prettiest of goals but the important thing is that he got the ball into the back of the net, which is a sign of a goal-poacher.

Hernandez was expected to play a bit-part role for the Red Devils but he worked his way into the starting 11, breaking up the partnership of Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov. Ferguson confirmed that he was not expecting Hernandez to play a huge role in his debut season. "It's been nothing but acceleration by him," Ferguson said. "We tell a lot of our young players to take time to settle in, learn the language and develop physically because it is a physical league. He's now had his breaking-in period and although he could speak English, it is now much better.

"He comes into training every morning at 9am does his own work in the gym, then stays after training with the rest of the players and practises various parts of his game. The boy wants to be a player and the footballing tradition of his family has helped. That gives him an extra encouragement and the urge to do well, which is sensational."

Hernandez went on to score an amazing 20 goals in all competitions for the Red Devils helping them to the Champions League final, which they lost 3-1 to Barcelona at Wembley Stadium. Due to his outstanding debut season, Hernandez was awarded the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award, which is an award for the fan's player of the year.

In the summer leading up to his second season at Old Trafford, Hernandez suffered from a minor concussion after being hit by a ball in the head during training. The Chivas Guadalajara doctor Rafael Ortega then informed Manchester United that Chicharito was suffering from a pre-existing neurological condition as he suffered from acute migraines and headaches as a teenager. That affected his pre-season preparations as he didn't even take part in the Community Shield match against Manchester City.

When he returned to fitness, Hernandez found it tough to get into the team as Danny Welbeck was now emerging and was the first-choice with Rooney as the starting pair. Hernandez, however, made the most of the opportunities he got and gave Ferguson selection headaches with his goals.

He would go on to score just 12 goals in all competitions and most of his appearances were from the bench. Ferguson had blamed his decrease in the number of goals on the heavy summer Chicharito had with the Mexican National Team and therefore didn't get the rest he needed.

This season Hernandez has once again faced a fight for a spot in the team with the arrival of Robin van Persie. Despite being behind the pair of Van Persie and Rooney, Hernandez has managed to score 16 goals in all competitions so far, changing several games for United after coming off the bench.

Ferguson has also said that it is hard to leave him on the bench as he is scoring lots of goals. Ferguson went on to highlight the level of professionalism of Hernandez as a big weapon for his goalscoring form. He had also gotten a lot of rest in the summer as he didn't have any international duties to fulfil. Due to his form in front of goal, Hernandez has reportedly attracted interest from Atletico Madrid as a potential replacement for Radamel Falcao, who seems to be on his was out of the Vicente Calderon.

Since his arrival at The Theatre of Dreams, Hernandez has been scoring lots of goals and is seen as one of the most lethal strikers in the world. He was even attracting interest from Real Madrid which lead Ferguson to offer him a new contract with a significant wage increase to fend off the interest of the Galacticos.

Hernandez is seen as the natural successor to United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer because of a similar playing style and their 'baby-face' look. He has made the most of the opportunity and the faith Sir Alex has placed in him and has earned a great reputation in front of goal.

Chicharito is a proven goal-scorer at the highest level in the Premier League, Champions League and on the international stage and those are the type of players the Old Trafford fans want to see wearing the United shirt.

With the Premier League title seemingly wrapped up many will be looking at how United can improve their squad. The Red Devils boast a devastating attack but Robert Lewandowski has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer.

With four strikers at the club, it would only be logical that if Lewandowski is to move to Old Trafford then a striker would have to be sold. There is no doubt that the Old Trafford supporters would love to see a player of the class and ability of Lewandowski at the club but it's also certain that they want to see Chicharito in the United shirt come next season.

Van Persie wants title triumph - ESPN.co.uk

Robin van Persie has revealed his goal was to win three trophies in his first season with Manchester United, but will settle for winning the Premier League title away to Arsenal next month.

Van Persie moved to Old Trafford from the Gunners in a £24 million transfer last summer, and has been forced to adjust his ambitions since United were bundled out of the Champions League by Real Madrid over two legs earlier this month.

The striker is now hopeful the league leaders can seal the domestic title when they play Manchester City on April 8, or at Arsenal three weeks later.

"My goal was to win the treble," Van Persie is quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror. "I wanted the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup.

"Now we only have the double and, yes, I think we could win the title at Arsenal or even against Manchester City. But I really don't care where we win it. I just want to grab that league title."

A target for United during his days in the Eredivisie in his homeland, Van Persie says he is now at an age when he can appreciate being at one of the Premier League's biggest clubs.

"[Manchester United manager] Sir Alex Ferguson once sent a scout over to Holland to watch me when I was a young player at Feyenoord. But I was sent off that afternoon and the scout went back to England with that in his report.

"Sir Alex mentioned that to me when I arrived at United. He felt I was not yet ready for a move to a big English club all those years ago - and he was right. I said to the boss 'you were right then, but I am ready now'," he explained.

Sir Bobby fund hits £5m - Birmingham Mail

A cancer charity formed in the name of former West Bromwich Albion player Sir Bobby Robson has raised more than £5 million.

The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation yesterday marked its fifth anniversary with a ringing endorsement from patrons, former footballers Alan Shearer and Niall Quinn.

The charity began when ex-England manager Sir Bobby was receiving treatment for cancer at Newcastle's General Hospital in 2008.

His oncologist, Prof Ruth Plummer, said £500,000 was needed to complete a move to the new Northern Centre for Cancer Care, at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle.

As a result Sir Bobby launched the foundation to raise the money that was needed, and since his death in 2009 it has gone on to raise £5.2m.

Former England captain Shearer said: "Sir Bobby set off to raise £500,000, so for his charity to have raised over £5m is a staggering achievement.

"The work the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation has funded over the past five years is incredible and really pushing the boundaries of how we detect and treat cancer. I've no doubts the next five years will be just as positive and bring even more advances."

Since it began, the foundation has funded new approaches to detecting and treating cancer as well as specialist training posts for a clinical trials doctor and nurse.

Quinn said: "I feel privileged to have met Sir Bobby, let alone to have contributed in a small way to his foundation.

Sir Bobby played almost 250 games for Albion, scoring 56 goals during a six-year stay at The Hawthorns from 1956 to 1962.

As a manager he took charge of England, PSV Eindhoven, Porto, Sporting Lisbon, Barcelona, Newcastle and led Ipswich Town to UEFA Cup glory.

Portland Womens Soccer Team Pulls Feelin Thorny? T-Shirts After ...

The Portland Thorns, a professional women's soccer team fighting for market share in a city where the official pastime is food truck scavenger hunting, caused quite a Facebook kerfuffle among soccer fans who thought punny new fan t-shirts emblazoned with "Feelin' Thorny?" were, oh, what's the word...sexist. In response to a groundswell of criticism, Mike Golub, the chief operating officer of the Thorns as well as its male counterpart, the Timbers (both are owned by Merritt Paulson), announced that shirts would be discontinued just about 24 hours after going on sale.

According to the Oregonian, the "Feelin' Thorny?" slogan began inviting charges of sexism from all corners of the Thorns Facebook page. Although Golub insisted that the shirt pun was simply a jest, and that "a great majority of fans find it funny," the backlash was significant enough to persuade the organization to take the shirts off of store shelves and stop peddling it (for the low, low price of $28!) on the Thorns/Timbers website.

In an apparent effort to diffuse charges of sexism, Golub revealed that a female employee had come up with the "Feelin' Thorny" slogan, though he wouldn't reveal the employee's name. Posters on Facebook pointed out that the shits sexualized the women's soccer team in a way that would the organization would never do to the men's team. One poster in particular framed the shirt's inherent sexism pretty concisely:

What makes you think that producing a t-shirt with the phrase "Feeling Thorny?" is a good idea? Why the need to sexualize merchandise for a women's sport, or any sport for that matter?

It's as tasteless as selling a shirt at Timbers games that says "Got wood?" This is such a disappointment and missed opportunity to promote the strength and ability of these women. I hope you'll reconsider the design and replace it with something more empowering and tactful.

Look, either everyone gets sexualized t-shirts or no one does. By itself, "Feelin' Thorny?" is a sexist slogan because it implies that female soccer players shouldn't be marveled at for their skill and athletic prowess — they should be objectified, too. Male athletes are certainly objectified, but never in a sexually possessive way. The message is always more subliminally sexual — Joe Flacco throws a touchdown pass while sweating Gatorade and a voiceover growls, "Hey bro, don't you want to touch penises with Joe Flacco after the game?" That, or fans are invited admire the godlike torsos of male athletes. You never see slogans like "Got Wood?" or "The New York Yankees Want You to Use Your Raging Boner for Batting Practice" because, with the exception of the '76 White Sox, nobody deems it appropriate to overtly sexualize male athletes. That has to change before something like a "Feelin' Thorny?" shirt can be taken for what Golub says it is — a mildly clever pun that induces people to shell out almost $30.
