Arbor Hills Place ClubJackson, Michigan Grade: B-Teacheras Comments: Loved the old-school format and good conditions at a bargain price. Arbor Hills is a basic greens situated just west of downtown Jackson, Michigan. A personal club since its beginning in 1925, it's recently operated as a public facility. The designer, Arthur Hamm, is considered a of Donald Ross. Iam not sure of the veracity of the data, however, since plenty of places claim to have been created by Ross proteges. In the event that you canat claim Ross, claim one of is own students. However, if youare a fan of classic courses, youall be considered a fan of Arbor Hills. The routing is forth and straight back, with t-shirts following directly on vegetables. The program is quite mature, with pine lined fairways and much shade. One end of the class is in a area and plays via a little marsh. Arbor Hillsa greens are small to mid-sized, as you could expect on a course. They're virtually all protected by mud processes. Many have bunkers right before the green. In most, the course sports thirty-plus traps. The terrain might be called rolling, but there are no mountains that may give anyone trouble. This can be a very walkable program, and if youare at all ready, I encourage you to do so. Stoll down the fairways and imagine people doing the same in the twenties and thirties with their caddies canvas bags, and peach shafted clubs. From with a program rating/slope of 70.9/129.The heart tees are at 6,243 yards and a 69.7/124, the back tees, Arbor HIlls represents to 6,513 yards. This is a program where in actuality the bogey golfer can possess some funa'provided he can hit it right. Conditions on the afternoon I visited were very good. The vegetables were in very good appearance and a joy to putt on. Tee containers looked good. The fairways were fully grown in. The rough, but, was dry and only a little difficult. A good deal of this grass had gone dormant. There were a couple of soggy spots, nevertheless, in the courseas lowlands near a creek and marsh. For the price, but, it had been all good. As an aside, I wonder why lessons insist on close-mowing all of the non-playing areas. Golf classes never to need to appear to be seas of endless green carpet. Let the grass grow long beyond the fairways and major tough. It adds both visual and playing attention. Itall save on maintenance costs and keep the moisture in. An exceptional value, as far as Iam concerned is offered by arbor Hills. Eighteen pockets with basket is $27. Eighteen walking is just $18. A good thing I can say about this course is that it stays on my ahave to return and playa number. I'd lots of fun.
