In the only precedent of Real Madrid playing Barcelona over two legs with a 1-1 first-leg score in all Copa del Rey, Spanish Super Cup and European Cup tournaments, the Whites came away triumphant. It happened in the semifinals of the 92/93 Copa del Rey after also playing the first leg at home. The Whites won 1-2 at the Camp Nou and ended up taking home the title ten days later at the Luis Casanova stadium.
Tonight Real Madrid faces the second-leg match of the Copa del Rey semifinals against Barcelona. It was a different story in the second leg with the team led in those days by Benito Floro coming away with a clear win. Michel scored a goal off a penalty, putting the Whites ahead on the scoreboard at halftime. Then, in the final minutes, Zamorano dealt the definitive blow and Laudrup closed the gap. Ten days later, the Whites won the title against Zaragoza (2-0) at the Luis Casanova stadium.
