Stoke City: Mama Sidibe eyes repeat of famous Britannia Stadium day - This is Staffordshire

MAMA Sidibe should be at the Britannia Stadium tomorrow, just like he was on that famous occasion back in 2008, but this time he will be with the fans cheering for another massive home win.

Sidibe was Stoke's injury-time match-winner with a never-to-be-forgotten moment on Stoke's home debut in the Premier League against Aston Villa.

MOMENT TO SAVOUR: Stoke substitute Mama Sidibe shows his delight after scoring an injury-time winner against Aston Villa in the first home Premier League match.

And now he's hoping to see someone else grab the glory against Villa – just as he did four-and-a-half years ago – as Stoke aim to extend that slender four-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

Sidibe, who is back temporarily from a loan spell at Tranmere because of a groin injury, said: "I remember that first home game very well.

"The atmosphere was fantastic, everybody was up for it, the fans and all the town. Yes, it was a massive atmosphere."

The score was 2-2 when Rory Delap, then something of an unheralded throw-in specialist, flung the ball long and hard into a heavily-congested Villa area at the Boothen End.

"As soon as I touched the ball I knew for sure it was going in for a goal because with the pace he threw it, I knew I only had to get a touch.

"For me, it was fantastic. I would have to say it was my best memory at Stoke. That and when we won promotion to the Premier League.

And now, with that groin injury sidelining him for the moment, Sidibe will be among the crowd tomorrow as Stoke chase a victory every bit as significant as that ground-breaking triumph back in 2008.

Sidibe hopes to return to Tranmere next week, but admits a full-time return to Stoke is unlikely when his current contract expires in the summer.

"To stay at Stoke would be a miracle, I think, so I will have to wait and see where I go," said the 33-year-old striker.

A Wembley swan-song would be a fitting send off to his English career were he to sign off in this country by reaching a League One play-off final with Tranmere.

"I was there watching, and for the semi-final, but of course it is very different playing to having to sit in the stands watching."
